I grew up around GSD's my whole life (we had them as pets only), but I have never researched the breed in-depth until just before I got Kodee. Even then, I was looking at general GSD info. I don't even know what lines Kodee comes from (I wish now that I had found this board before I got a pup, although I wouldn't trade him for the world, now), as I was just looking for a pet, and not a working or show dog. Since coming to this board, I've seen a lot of posts re: "American" bloodlines, "German", "Working" and "Show" GSD's. I would like to learn more information about the different "lines" or "types" of GSD. Can any of you point me to some websites/links that I can learn more? (Please forgive me for any errors in terminology. I am too ignorant of the different lines to probably ask the questions I mean to ask properly."
Thanks!

Sandy Moore posted this link a few days ago...
GSD Breed Types
Not that I know a thing about GSD breed types. I found it interesting from a visual POV.

If it's referred to as an ASS dog, it's an American Show Shepherd!
Did I say that with my outloud voice?

Not to sound like a zealot or anything, Kori, but I think you've hit the jackpot for the info you requested right here on Leerburg. Aside from the search feature, if you post a new topic with your question, you will get some great answers/viewpoints.

Jessica/Sandy
That’s a nice link. I’ve seen people post about DDR Shepherds and I guess I assumed that they all looked like the Rin Tin Tin Shepherds.
You can really see a difference is the head structure between the different lines.
I personally don’t like the head on the DDR dogs; it looks more like a Mal; maybe it is just the dog in the photo. I also don’t like the head on that White Shepherd.
I like the longer snout; I guess I’m an ASS man.

And let us not forget, Kori the "other" breed, often referred to by some as the "golden middle" or as some others call them the "hybrids" or half breeds, like my dog, that is a mixture of working and show lines...could it get any more complicated? Lol!

No offense to Robbin's dog at all, never met her or the dog, but apparently her dog can work so she is lucky But I would stay away from the "Golden Middle" dogs.
The goal with them is to be as pretty as a showline with the drives and nerves of the work line.
What happens? More often than not, you get dogs that are too "ugly" to show and not enough drive or nerve to work.
There are exceptions ofcourse, but its pointless breeding. Litters are rarely uniform, so lets say there are 7 pups, 1 of them is good enough to be a working dog.... but the other 6 were duds. Why on earth would you breed to produce only one good dog? If you want a working dog, get a working dog. If you want to show, get a show dog. If you want to do both, get 2 dogs
