I was talking to a customer the other day who takes his dog everywhere with him. He doesn’t work and they spend quality time together. What he told me made me think about imprinting. He said when his wife comes home from work the dog doesn’t even know he exists. I asked him why and he said he thinks when they picked the puppy up from the breeder the wife held the dog the whole way home. I thought it about for a moment and I said I think that’s why my dog prefers me. Besides holding her in my jacket on the way home, I slept next to her crate the first night. Then I always left an article of my clothing in her crate. Do you think this is imprinting. I never really heard of imprinting until Jerry posted it a few weeks ago. Can something this simple establish a life long bond?
For the most part people think of imprinting as preparing a dog for later obedience exercises. I think you are referring to more of a bonding situation.
Vince I agree and I would add that although bonding with a dog is a wonderful experience there is always the problem of a dog becoming way too attached to just one person.....Richard knows this first hand for sure.

BTW: was that the left or right.
Will you losers get out there and post some training stuff. Stop screwing around. I don't like all this funny stuff on the board. This is a serious place, for serious people, that are serious about serious training. You jokers don't take this discussion board seriously. Hmmph. . .
