I have a 1 year old female A.B. that got her 1 year shots on Tuesday. Today (Friday) she seems to have developed a severe itch. I have not switched foods.
She has been inspected for flees.
When I scratch her belly or brush her hair she kicks her leg like she is scratching. She has never done that before.
Any idea if it is possibly related to vaccine? How long symptoms should last? Any ideas how to ease the symptoms or on other possible causes?
I purchased her some salmon fillets to feed her the next couple of days hoping the oils help with her skin.
The itch is not localized, neck, legs, back, and belly.
The skin is not red or swollen
In my opinion the itch is driving driving her crazy. She cant sleep, she jumps up in the middle of night, runs around rubbing her self against the walls and scratching.
She goes from using her rear legs to scratch her left side to using her her rear leg to scratch the other side.
The kicking is that thing dogs do when you scratch their belly. I think it is a simulated scratching. She has never done this before.
Also there is a now noticeable hair loss. Not balding but severe shedding. .
Took the dog to the vet last night. The vet seemed to agree it was a reaction to the vaccine. She prescribed a steroid to ease the itch.
Have not used the steroid, but she is looking much better. Her energy has returned and her hair has stopped falling out.
