Gilchrist County Animal Control in Florida called PETA asking for help getting a dog weight-pulling event canceled at The Hitching Post bar in Trenton. Sadly, laws do not protect animals from being forced to participate in these types of events, which often serve as networking opportunities for dogfighters. After animal control officers told the bar's owner that PETA disapproved of the weight pull, we called the owner and secured the immediate cancellation of the cruel event.
A tired dog is a good dog, a trained dog is a better dog.
Now you're making me feel like heel. I've been forcing my dog to pull me around on roller blades all this time. I wish someone told me sooner how much he hated it.
The way it was written appeared you were in support. Some quotes or the like would have ended my confusion. Apparently I'm the only one confused today.
That news item was very short and leaves a lot to the imagination. What I read into it is that Animal Control had a problem with the humans who were planning to attend the event rather than the fact that dogs were going to pull weight. Getting PETA to step in and help get the event canceled probably saved animal control resources. Not that I agree with taking the easy way out...

LOL, yikes its scary to think for even a minute or two one of you might have though I was associated with PETA. It would have been better if I had posted a comment along with the article. Oh BTW, schutzhund is cruel too.
