I just got mine from Dogtra today and put it on. For those of you have that them, do they work better or worse through the fur?
I put it on my hand, and the correction definitely feels weaker than the original posts that were in there. I know the dog feels it, at least occasionally, because as soon as I correct him for something, he'll follow the command. But, not all the time. So I'm wondering if it's making intermittent contact.
The posts directed the energy over a wider path, which seemed to make the muscles in my hand twitch. The SCG is more localized and does not. I could see this in the dog because his head would immediately snap up with the posts, but not the SCG.
Any advice or reviews on this would be appreciated. The documentation that comes with it says you can use lower stim levels, but when I put it on my hand, it's definitely weaker than the posts at the same level.
Plus, the contacts on it are so much shorter than the standard 5/8" posts, that I wonder how it could possibly make contact. The reason I switched is because I was having contact problems before, and the Dogtra people said this would solve it.

I still seem to think you aren't making contact every time. For me contact every time was difficult also. Are you sure you have the collar on tight enough. It's kind of surprising how tight you need to fasten it.
As I recall, my stim level with the SCG is slightly higher than with the posts. It's been awhile since I used posts. I don't know if this is true with all dogs.
I shave a little fur to make better contact.
I can see a noticeable twitch in my dogs fur near the receiver at approx. 30 with a Dogtra 1700. If I recall you have a 1900. There may be a difference between the 2 models. Individual dogs may react differently.
With my dog it also depends how strong his drive is at the moment.
If he is fence fighting with the dog next door he will walk or should I say run through anything less than 45.
Keep in mind this is just my personal experience with the SCG.
I have a spot on his neck where I trimmed the fur shorter, and then I position the collar there. It's basically right behind his ear far up on his neck. I have the cinch-it collar and I tighten it down *tight*. It doesn't move from its position on his neck once it's in place.
