Hello, I had a great GS for years. Shutzhund 1. We had to put him down a couple of years ago. I now have a 2 month old Doberman female pup. She fell in the swimming pool the other day. Our Golden Retriever jumped in and hauled her out. She thinks this is a great game! She jumped right back, and back. I'm really happy she didn't get a fright.
Cheers, Alan
Make sure the pup knows where the steps are in the pool so she can get out on her own.
You may have drowned pup otherwise.
In fact, I don't think that it is a bad idea to never take the pup out of the pool except for the steps. Never had to do any formal training for Turbo to find the steps. It was the only way out.
Or just keep the retriever around.... The force is strong in your retriever.
