My husband rescue unwanted pups and dogs and find new homes for them for were we live there is no shelters. We recently recieved a call about 2 wolf pups. They are 8 weeks old and horrified of everything. When we went to pick them up the man told us he had just given them an additude adjusment. It is going to take alot of work but we wont give up on them. Can anyone give me some advice. Thanks for the help.
Ditto! Wolves are NOT dogs, and will not behave like them. If you don't have hands on experience with wolves I wouldn't even attempt trying to raise them.
Maybe Jenn Marshal will see this and chime in. She may be able to hook you up with some resources.
I'm not sure exactly an 'attitude adjustment' means, I assume nothing good.
Anyways, enre to the wolf pups...Are they actual wolf? Can you be sure of that? Not coyote? Not feral dog pups?
Myself, I think the wild life service would like to know how this guy came in posession of wolf pups.
However if I found myself in the position of rescuing some wolves the first thing I'd do is get on the phone and start calling anyone I could think of that might be able to get me in touch with someone who specializes in wildlife rescue and reintroducing them into the wild......And hope they have room for them.
You have no hope other than a refuge for helping these wolves in the long run. It's a very specialized field.
We are the rehab in our area and I have worked with wolves but these have been beaten and I just wanted a little advice on getting them past this rough spot. Thanks Shona
Then you must have a surrogate parent for them to bond to, correct?
If they're wary and perhaps even afraid of people.....that's actually very normal for wolves, isn't it?
I'm not sure inuring the pups to humans is the proper course of action. If even possible.
what are you asking exactly?
from what i am getting, you are the rehabbers, but are only experienced with rearing wolf pups that haven't been physically abused, is that correct?
These are wolf hybrid. And the man has the parents and 2 more. They are well behaved and have a huge area to run. I just think he might have lost his temper with the pups. We are prepared to take care of them no matter what. We live in the mountains and don't have many neghibors and we have the means of haveing a great place for them. Shona
Yes I have a Golden Retriver pup their age with them and it has helped alot. She is very outgoing and The female pup has really taken to her. It is the abuse part I am having problem getting out of them. The male stays in the corner of the pen with his head hidden. They DONOT show any agression just fear.
