Just got back from the vet because my GSD puppy had been having diarrhea. While she showed no signs of being dehydrated the stool sample came back with "cork" like bacteria indicating most likely bacterial colitis. So now shes on a few different antibiotics and whatnot. The vet was a bit hesitant to say what would cause this. She hasn't been near any dogs or fecal matter or anything other then her kennel and my yard, except for when we took her to the vet when she was 7.5 weeks for an exam. Any ideas on what would cause this? Or anyone have experience with this?
Oh yes sorry it was described as corkscrew and Spirochetes sounds very familiar. She is on clavamox and metronidazole as well as bene-bac. The diarrhea was always pudding like and never water-ish. She was having a hard time holding her bowel movements and would frequently go in the crate at night even though I would get up every three to four hours to take her out. You are super fast on responding Connie, thanks!

Which type is it? Do you have the paperwork?
Dale, I hope that you will be diligent about following up. Just as with UTIs, too many vets forget to stress the importance of a re-check at the end of the med protocol.
Argh, this is driving me crazy. The meds she was on took care of her stool for about a day, then it reverted right back to how it was. She just finished her meds two days ago and is having uncontrollable diarrhea. I take her out every three hours at night, and every 1.5-2 hours during the day and she still ends up going in the crate a few times a day. She ultimately gets the diarrhea all over her. So from this point, how many times can I give a puppy a bath without doing more harm then good. Currently I am feeding her chicken soup for the large breed puppy with some water mixed in ( Kind of worried about dehydration , a tblsp of canned pumpkin. Any ideas, I just called and left the vet a message so I am waiting to hear from him for his next plan of action. I do put a lot of value on the information you guys offer so I am up for any ideas.
I'm sure someone else with a bit more experience with these situations will chime in but, have you tried the bland rice and chicken diet with the pumpkin to ease her gut?
