Hello again,
I have been asking way to many questions (yes I did search! lol) lately but hopefully you all can offer a bit of advice with this one.
Its been raining alot here. My "yard" where he goes is a floating grass bed we are having that much rain. He doesnt like to get his feet wet. We get downstairs and he waits by the door. As soon as he sees its raining plop right on his tush and good luck moving him.
I did pick him up and plop him in the grass and he heads right back to the apartment door, he knows which one is his, and will not move from my door mat. I have tried treats (hotdogs which he loves or cheese slice little pieces), I have tried his rope bone (he's obsessed with this thing), whistling and making kiss noises (these work when its not raining to keep him moving, and as a last resort pulling him along behind me . I am not very happy with myself or my hubby with the last one but we are having trouble getting him to go.
Mind you he will pee just fine, he doesnt have to get his "stuff" wet. But when he has to hunch up and play a black and white camel good luck! He wont go for a walk and I have tried having him chase his rope bone around the living room or chase a ball to get the excersize he needs to keep the bowels moving.
I have tried the "higher" areas where there is no standing water, and his favorite place behind the mail box shed. Nothing works. Lastly I have tried a different route to his poo area, and going out when the rain lets up a bit.
He sits there and shakes because he is soaked. I towel dry him off and he cuddles with "mom" to warm up. Any advice with a stubburn 8 week old on this issue would be welcomed.
Thanks,
Mary

I haven't had this issue so I am going to just throw an idea out...
Do you have an old kiddie pool or child's sandbox? You could try putting in some woodchips (like for guinea pigs) and covering it with plywood or a tarp. Only take the lid off when you are outside with him and make it his new "bathroom" until the rain lets up.
Sorry if this is not much help, I more have to worry about snow and freezing cold and I have not had a pup have a problem with either....yet!

When he refuses to pee/poop, walk back to the house/apartment door but don't go in. Turn right back around and walk (or carry if necessary) Finn back to the area you've designated for him to use. Repeat as necessary. Our current problem at 13 weeks is heat but we went through the rain problem a few weeks ago. Lulu usually figures it out by the second trip.

Your puppy is super cute.
A kitchen stick match lubricated with butter or vaseline, put in about 1/4" like a thermometer, will produce a poop reliably w/o stress.
My pup was paper trained this winter. It worked terrific, had quite an easy time converting him to outdoors, just rewarded outdoor pee/poops as recommended on this forum and he became an outdoor bathroom dog.
The rain is almost over!

Oh .... My..... I wonder if this would work on my husband when I want him to take the dog out at 3 am when its his turn...I will let you know
but besides that the rain finally stopped and boy did he go. I also found "High" ground behind some garages/dumpsters that he loves to go there now. Starts behind dumpsters and then continues down about 45 yrds thats all raised. He even gets to play with the birdies that live in the pine trees
Hehe, love the match idea though. I have heard of a lubricated cotton swab but not a match. hmm..

Oh my is right! However, it might take something larger than a match stick for your husband at 3:00 AM.... LOL!
Let's just ALL be glad the rain is slacking off, to say the least.
