I want to buy or build a kennel strong enough to secure 2 high-drive dogs in side-by-side 4'-wide runs (it has to fit in an 8.5'-wide space).
In the past I've built my kennels with 4"x4" redwood posts framed with 2x4s and welded, galvanized wire.
This time I'm considering buying a pre-fab kennel - either heavy-duty galvanized chain-link or panels of powder coated welded wire on square-tube steel frames.
Anybody have any suggestions or info about the advantages/disadvantages of chain-link vs. the welded wire panels?
One problem I've found is the welded wire panels tend to come in 5'-wide sizes so I couldn't put two of them together side-by-side in the space I have so I might have to special order some 4'-wide panels which would add to an already high cost.
The more I think about it, the more I am starting to realize I need to get out the dreaded post-hole digger and build it myself.
If cattle panels would be a fine enough mesh they can be found in 16ft.sections.
We anchor these with untreated railroad tie ( 6x8) posts from our local lumber yard. We try to get white oak which lasts a long time and stands up to pressure washing. THese panels are cheaper than chain link and very durable. A top "rail" of an oak board between the railroad ties gives a finished look.
