"It would be nice to get some feedback from more folks who did not participate, to see why not..."
Me: I don't know how to run the video thing on the camera when I'm not holding it. Actually, I don't know how, period. It is there, though, on my Canon Powershot (which I love to death now that I have figured out iPhoto and all) because there is a camera icon, a movie camera icon, and a "upload to computer" thing.
Do you practice being in a certain zone in the room the the camera sits on a table and aims at? Or do you actually need a person to hold it?
I get very anxious around electronics that I have not mastered. Like maybe sobbing in frustration. LOL

And here is my response to you, that I posted and deleted in the other thread!
Buy a 'Flip' pocket video camera for $100 or so.
You can hand hold it, stand it up, or put it on a tripod. It has 1 button on it. Really.
It comes with a built in USB adapter that you plug into your computer. The first time you plug it in it automatically downloads the software it uses onto your computer.
Once you shoot the video, you plug it in to your computer and it uploads from the camera automatically.
The software has links to YouTube and Facebook, etc.
Downside, it has almost no editing features, but I have a feeling you would not be doing much editing any way...

But I LOOOOOVE this Canon. I loooove it and it's the only one I know to work and it was a painful process.
I do have all the simple-plug-in, immediate upload, iPhoto opens with direct links to YouTube, etc., all by itself, etc. (I use a Mac, after all LOL). It's the camera I don't want to replace.
So my camera stands up. Do you just fool around seeing where to be so the camera aims at you? Then stay in that spot? I'm guessing this must be the case. And since you say "tripod," I'm guessing no 2nd person is needed. ....
eta
I will try it. I will see if I can figure out how to get me and a dog into camera range and stay there. And how long the camera keeps going and all.
If I start sobbing, all bets are off.

Connie set up the camera some where pointed where your gonna train and put small peices of masking tape on the floor where the boundries of the camera view are, that way you know if your in or out, works pretty well for me.
I have a canon powershot, all I have to do is slide the selector to video and press the button to take a picture on the top and your off I would assume yours is the same. Good Luck

My kids downloaded our stuff to I-movie on the Mac (I have a MacBookPro)From there I think you can edit, and it goes easily-at least for kids-from I-movie to Photobucket

For the first contest, I had my camera sitting on a small table in the room next to where we were working. I just looked through the view finder and moved the table back far enough to accomodate the area I needed.
For the second contest I had Doug's help, but later tried it using my tripod and that worked really well. I'll be relying on that more!
I think you are going to find it to be very simple, Connie. On my camera you simply turn the dial to the movie camera icon and depress the picture taking button partway - voila!
YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

I also have a powershot, it's my second one actually. I can't find it since I moved, which is why I have been using my iPhone for Faroh's videos. I also have a MacBook Pro, and iMovie is SO easy to use, it's ridiculous. If you want to PM me Connie, I can walk you through any specific questions to your situation.
In general though, I would just set the camera to video, put it on a chair, and press the shutter button and start training. Edit out the waste parts afterward.
