				hi everyone,
Am shocked my dog has just bitten my neighbour,he has met her before and is fine with her,she usually gives him a treat and pets him.Today just an hour ago she did the same thing,he took the treat then exploded into barking and bit her finger.
Before i took him the walk i had been playing with him in the garden,he was excited and jumping around a bit but other than that i cant think why he went like that.I know the lady well and i dont think she will make a complaint,i did see on one of eds dvds not to let people feed your dog treats but he has allways been fine with the lady so i thought it was ok because the dog knows her.Any advice would be most welcome

Were you there with her when it happened? It seems like you are missing a sign. I would not be surprised if your dog gave an indication that he is nervous before he exploded into barking and bit your neighbor's finger.

				How bad is the bite?
A nibbed cuticle, and bruised finger, or an honest to god bite?

Was it just bratty behavior, ie. give me more? Or was it gtf outta here.

But yeah, I don't let anyone give my dog treats or rarely let anyone pet them even. One, it goes against training and two, they've got no business looking to anyone else for attention, affection, food/treats or anything else they may be looking for. Even a hand to bite. lol

				Hi
I was there so was my girlfriend, the bite wasnt bad he broke the skin on the ladys finger but i think it was a bit more than just bratty behaviour.
I think i am missing a sign but i dont know what,i wont be letting her feed him a treat or petting him again.I cant figure it out hes such a frienly dog,hes fine in the flat with my girl friend, he is excitable with her but calms down and goes to his place when told.
I will have to be real careful in the future and stop people meeting him like that.

the dog was excited and pulled on the lead to meet her,we we said hello and i walked on,my girlfrien stopped to speak to the lady so i turned round and let her meet him with a treat, she was leaning over a gate and his ears went back she petted him then he started barking jumped and bit her finger.Usually i meet the lady on my own on the street dont know if that has anything to do with it.

Was she coming in over top of him? Was his head underneath her? Was her hand above his head?

Fear biters will usually avoid/back/run away if they can and bite only when cornered, grabbed or towered over. Their body launguage usually is an arched back, hackles raised, tail tuck, ears back, may or may not show teeth but lip pulled back either way, and their eyes and muzzle follow any encroaching hand. Was this how he looked?
EDIT: when he pulled to met her, was he friendly and excited or alarmed and excited? (I'm thinking the latter)

He had his ears back and she was leaning over him,he didnt have raised hackles or bared teeth but it happened so quickly i dont know if his tail was tucked in or not.It does sound like the way you have explained it,maybe he was alarmed then and am not reading the situation properly.
