Hi Everyone,
I had Skipper in at the vet today to get his teeth checked and they look great! The vet mentioned neither Jethro nor Skipper has been vaccinated since we adopted them last year and suggested we bring in their vaccination records from the shelter to figure out if they need anything. The vet specifically mentioned giving them rabies shots.
Here is what I have from their records:
Jethro (approx. 16 months old now, 4 months old when we adopted last year; shepherd x):
Jun 4 2010 Vaccine 6 way combo (distemper, hepatitis, lepto, para influenza, parvo, corona); Deworm (Drontal)
Jul 18 2010 Vaccine Booster 6 way combo; Deworm (Drontal)
Skipper (approx. 11 years old fox terrier):
May 11 2010 Vaccine 6 way combo (distemper, hepatitis, lepto, para influenza, parvo, corona); Deworm (Drontal)
Can anyone advise me on whether they need vaccinations, and if so, what they should be given. I really do not know anything about this area of dog care and I know there is some controversy about when, when, and why to give vaccinations.
I don't want to speak to the vaccinations directly as there are people much more knowledgeable than I who I am sure will comment. But I did notice that you didn't mention rabies. I can't imagine that they would have adopted them out without rabies since I believe that rabies is required by law in all states.

Edit reason: just noticed you are in Canada and have no idea about rabies requirements there.
I would not vaccinate the Fox Terrier any more for anything if he was mine.
The big dog, I would boost one more time with the DHLP-Parvo, perhaps 6 mos from now-- then I would boost that every 3 yrs.
The Rabies question needs to be answered. I'm certain that coming from a shelter they were vaccinated, but records need to be found.

Why not get titers done? That's what I do on my adult dogs, even though I had to hunt down a vet that even knows what I'm talking about. Apparently people around here just stab their dogs with needles and don't care.
Rabies is required, by law, so you must get that done how the law requires it. Some people are lucky and can get the three year vaccine. Here in Louisiana (backwards south) it's required to get a 4 month old dog a rabies shot and do it every single year. I'm breaking the law until Radar is 6 months.
I live in Canada and I can't speak for British Columbia but I know in Ontario, a rabies shot is mandatory. I would think all of Canada would be the same.
