Just a little update on my motivational retrieve Bernhard Flink's way. For all that saw my dog Bodie at the Flink's seminar in June TRYING the retrieve, I have had success with his dumbbell work. Bodie now goes out and brings front with the dumbbell. I used NO force at all. He understand now that he must have the dumbbell in order to be rewarded. He understands that bring mean pick it up and come sit front with it. If he drops it I can tell him bring and he immediatley picks up the dumbbell from the ground and comes sits front. I'm very excited I have had success with this method and wanted everyone to know that with some patience you and your dog can be success with the motivational retrieve
Live with him and you would understand why LOL (just kidding, he's an angel )
I have to say that the flinks stuff has done wonders for my boy as well. For those of you that watched me screw up repeatedly, Gunther is heeling like a pro now... and even does that little three beat bouncing thing! Nothing like working alongside a truly happy dog.
I was incredibly frustrated for a long time because even though my TD has seen the tapes, she would constantly try to get me to switch to food. I quit doing OB in front of everyone(cuz I was being a nerve bag) and it finally all clicked. I took Gunther back out in front of everyone Thursday and had many compliments about his animation Not bad for my pound puppy!

. I quit doing OB in front of everyone! I did the same thing. I quit trying to do the retrieve at training. I did it in my back yard. It worked like a charm. I went back out last week with his retrieve work and everyone was impressed with his improvement.
Good job Karmen. I sure felt sorry for you at the seminar, 95 degrees and you in a black sweatsuit running around for a minute or so. . Glad it worked out. We had similar success, now just trying to finish cleanly without the crash. Are you coming to the seminar in Jan. here in Tallahassee? Weather should be great.
