I hope this is the right place to post this. Please move if not - thank you.
I just got off the phone with my Vet - we talked about the new puppy and his vaccinations. She is open to him having the 2 way but she can't get it. She only has the 4 way vac (with kennel cough prevention in it?) and told me if I can get the 2 way or 3 way she will use that.
She is adamant about him having him vaccinated in 3 stages. I don't want her to think I am playing doctor here as you all know I know next to nothing about all this.
I want to advocate for my puppy but I also want to keep my vet as she takes her time and really listens. Thanks for any guidance.

Nobivac Puppy-DPv
(Box of 25 Doses), 9N-72690, $74.99
Available at Drs Smith & Foster
It does parvo & distemper.
If you even think you may have a chance of parvo, try to line up the Tamiflu ahead of time. At the end of the flu season, many pharmacies will stop keeping it on hand.
Since time is **very** critical on this treatment, you don't want to wait any longer than absolutely necessary. You will also need to mix it with something -- the taste is really nasty. And a 15# puppy shouldn't get a full dose. Some of the larger vet clinics will have a compounding pharmacist on site. Otherwise, your vet may know a pharmacist who can mix it up with something sweet. They often do that for children.
Maybe she got her cat and dog vaccines briefly confused? There's lots of 4 way vacs for cats. Most for dogs are 5 way.
I wouldn't really worry about "playing doctor" with vaccines considering most vets knowledge level. An orthopedic problem? I listen to the vet. Vaccines? Nope. Sad isn't it.
When I called around to find a vet for Tanner I talked to many vets who were adamant that yearly vaccines were the "current accepted standard" and straight out refused to consider changing an expiration date. The vet I wound up with had no problems changing the dates to a three year schedule and openly critisized the vet who was trying to require a previously vaccinated adult(with records!) to come back and get a "booster" shot three weeks after getting a combo shot vaccine.
She said it was kennel cough and I said, why would they put that in there when a lot of dogs don't need to be protected from it - I told her that I wasn't comfortable with that so that's when she said she was open to me buying my own and she would administer it.
I will change vets if need be as I am not going to waste the wonderful guidance I am getting here or the time people are giving me to help me do right by my dogs.
I really appreciate all of you who share your knowledge with me. I have one messed up tiny dog by blindly doing what I was told by a Vet - never again before checking here.
Cathy - you probably hit the nail on the head - she might indeed have gotten confused and mixed them up.
I don't have a lot of confidence when talking to her because I am aware of my lack of knowledge - if it wasn't for this site, my tiny girl would be in real trouble and my boy would be headed down the same road.

OTOH, she was open to using a two-way if it was available.
Maybe if you called back and said you had forgotten what the four were, the answer would make more sense. (Maybe there really is a 4-way that includes bordetella.... and what is the number four?)
You don't know all four at this time, so you'd be asking anyway, right?
