Many diabetic foods have Xylitol in them. So even if it looks innocuous - like a vanilla pudding - it might not be.
I have stopped my favorite treat just because of that .. yes, Heiland is always leashed to me or dragging his leash but I am afraid that he might get the wrapper even - he has learned how to step on the little contraption that opens my garbage can in the kitchen and he is faster than I am.

I remember there was a toothpaste made for dogs that contained xylitol. Somebody I worked with was brushing my boss's dogs teeth when I asked, oh whats in that...when she said Xylitol I freaked out and told them. They couldn't believe it.
Xylitol is great for people, I use it in my coffee and when I made some ice cream instead of sugar. But I warned everyone that its poison to dogs.
Logan's command for drop it is NASTY!...LOL that started with him picking up disgusting dead things on walks and the only word I could think was nasty LOL
A tired dog is a good dog, a trained dog is a better dog.
Whoa! Apparently it's not that safe for use either!
From the article:
Xylitol is not "GRAS" (Generally Recognized As Safe for consumption). Xylitol only has a "GRAS" for cosmetic products which is why it is accepted in toothpaste and chewing gum. The assumption for "safe" use of xylitol in cosmetic products is that it is not swallowed or absorbed in any way. However as you know, it will be absorbed when it goes into your mouth. Xylitol, the white powdered stuff, does not occur naturally. The "xylitol" in nature is going to be different because it doesn't exist on its own as a singular entity
