We finally got Tanner's CGC on Sunday! I know it's a very simple test but I think even getting a CD will be less difficult for my very people-oriented social boy. We might train for Rally after this. I just need to teach him a formal heel and finish.
He really struggled with not being able to break position once somebody was petting him. I finally resorted to risking not being allowed to come back to the class and gave a few leash pops for breaking the sit-stay. Smart boy would eye me to see if I was going to do anything about it as he broke position to go to people. Once we had that settled he was good.
Congratulations! May that be the first of many fun and exciting titles you two train for.
He sounds a lot like one of mine. It was quite challenging to teach him that he's supposed to stand still and not greet the judge with over-the-top enthusiasm, lol.
Thanks everyone. He was actually harder to get a CGC with than my shy boy when I still had him.
I just got a dog trick book that we're starting to work our way through. It has cards that go with it and the back of the cards have blocks that you fill in for every 5 times you practice a trick. Tanner likes it a lot and I'm challenging myself to do the whole book with zero corrections. I think I lean on "no" a little more than I should.
You really should try Rally. It's alot of fun and you can speak to your dog the whole time as long as you don't repeat a command.
I'm not sure if AKC Rally is the same as CARO Rally but there are no corrections allowed in CARO. Your first correction will get you disqualified. Your second correction in the same year will get you barred for two years. They are very serious about no corrections, verbal or physical. Rally is supposed to fun for you and your dog.
