I have a Chihuahua mix puppy. I have been going through Leerburg's DVD on Marker Training. I have noticed that most of the dogs that have great engagement and training are the German Shepard dogs. Could I get my little Chihuahua to engage me and train like a GSD or will she not get to that level because of her breed, or will it just take more work, does a GSD learn faster than other breeds? Just wondering why most of the video's have GSD dogs in them?

Some dog breeds have higher intelligence as well as other qualities/traites...basically a hardwired part of their DNA. But that doesn't' mean that you can't teach other dogs the same way. Obviously you are not going to play tug with a tiny dog the way you will with a larger one...but otherwise pretty much the same things work with any dog....as long as it has food or toy drive.
I have trained 4 w/l GDSs, a toy Poodle, a collie.etc all the same ways. You may'm need to modify some of what or how you do things based on the individual dog....but the basics stay the same.

"Well, I'm just spit-balling here", but my best guess is:
Most professional trainers OWN working breeds such as GSD and Belgian Malinois which are also large enough to serve well as Demonstration dogs on Camera...
Toy breeds like Chihuahuas and other little dogs are every bit as SMART as their Big Cousins and can be trained to equally HIGH levels, Sean

Thanks for the reply that makes a lot of sense that they have the larger breeds on camera as a demonstration, I don't see many videos of small breeds on demonstration on camera.
