Does anyone have a good growth / weight chart for GSD puppies?
We have been cautioned not to overfeed our new pup. I was thinking if I had an idea of how much she is supposed to gain over time it would help me gauge how much to feed her. The growth charts on some popular GSD sites seem to be for much larger dogs. The breeder noted that she will be on the small end of the standard and may not mature until closer to 3yrs.
I think individual dogs, even within breeds are to individualistic to really follow a chart.
I've never really bothered to weigh a pup to control groth.
It's more about what you see.
You don't want a fat puppy in particular because to much weight on the growing frame can be detrimental.
I like to feel a little ribs on a puppy.
When I had two GSDs bother were W?G over Czech and both about the same height but their bone structure was different and there was about 10 lbs difference at their annual health check at the vets.
2 1/2 - 3 yrs isn't to uncommon for a GSD to mature, in color also.

Yes, I do the rib test too, also for adult dogs. Also when we look from behind and above we should see a waist. If you don't feel the ribs and don't see a waist the dog is getting too fat, perhaps only a bit, but it can easily go in direction obesity, which harms the inner organs and might reduce the life expectancy of the dog.
I've read that a dog should get about 2-3% of it's body weight. (Just as a general directive) Two of mine have 30 kg, recieve 600g and have a perfect figure. The fourth one is 40kg and of course recieves correspondingly more, She's also in best shape.
My Lab-Mix is without doubt too fat. She weighs 30 kg and recieved 600 g, then I reduced to 500, then 400, now 300. But she simply doesn't loose weight. Rib and waist test she fails constantly. Exercises she gets as much as the others She must have another metabolism or somethng is wrong.
My question: Should I consult a Vet, have her thyroid etc. examined? 300g seems to me so little.

Thank you both- that's a big help. She seems to have grown an inch over the last week! Logically I know they grow a lot over a short period of time but it's still a little shocking, lol.
