This year I am at a loss with these things. Normally I use several herbal repellents + flea free and diatomaceous earth and see very few fleas at all and he is fine. This year, ITS NOT working!!! I even prayed the yard and inside with an insecticide in addition and flea comb him everyday. Have they become resistant to everything?
Logan's skin is so irritated right now from them. I am thinking about getting Advantus (oral flea control) and once his skin heals applying advantage or frontline. Use of pesticides is something I haven't even had to consider in YEARS but this year is something different.
Any thoughts on this product? Is there something better or safer or more effective ?

I've had my dogs on Trifexis for years and never had problems with fleas or any of the other things it controls. Definitely not the natural approach but heartworms, fleas and other parasites are all really bad in our area (part of the country and 'hood) for various reasons. Too many mosquitoes year round, feral cats and irresponsible people.
Definitely read the fine print- I think it says not for breeding females or dogs with epilepsy. You HAVE to give it with a meal.
I would definitely keep up the DE in the yard- especially at the perimeter. Best of luck-

Thanks Carolyn,
I'm heading to the petstore after deliberating...his skin looks a lot better today since his bath, so I may be able to apply some frontline or advantage. I know he has tolerated those in the past.

I decided against the oral flea control when I found out the dosage was much higher than the topical. I applied advantage and it has helped a lot. But they are still coming from the rabbits and neighbor's pets. So he just has less fleas now
If it ever stops raining I can spray the yard again.

Don't know if anyone still does it but some used to put flea collars in their vacuum cleaner bag for control on the fleas in the house.

I have also used flea powder sprinkled on the carpets and then vacuumed up as part of a multi-pronged attack during the worse flea times ever, More recently, I've read that the vacuum cleaner alone is effective, as long as everything is done at once. That is, a bath for the dog, the dog's bed and any blankets, etc., washed in hot water, the flea topical applied, and so on, along with the thorough vacuuming, (IMHO and IME, this is a two-person job that pretty much wipes out a Saturday.)
I just went searching for the details of flea-fighting posted here over the years and found a few good threads.

It'll take an hour or more to read these, but they will be very informative.
There are many more, and I'll search again this weekend.

Bob, I never thought about putting a flea collar in the vacuum cleaner...that's old school!
Connie thanks, it'll take a while to read all that. I'll start with tomorrow when I'm off with vacuuming, crate cleaning, blanket washing and bath. I've heard the topical works better when you wait 48hrs to apply after a bath...but is that really necessary? I'm applying it a week early but also using a lower dose because of his age and I can tell it's loosing it's effectiveness after 3 weeks. It worked great at first.

According to SimpleGuard 3, no need to wait but make sure he's completely dry.
Frontline Plus says wait 48 hours.
K9 Advantix says "Make sure to wait 24 hours after applying K9 Advantix II before allowing your pet to get wet, either via bathing or swimming. If you need to apply it right after a bath, make sure your pet is completely dry first."
