I would appreciate anyones opinion on thier pedigree - I'm very much a novices at such things I could really benefit from honest (and constructive!) evaluation.
Chris, maybe one of the reasons why mike told you to keep looking is because V Quinie Vom Schonen Blick - that's the bitch - ok well her sire looks like a show dog to me with a show line pedigree. If you follow the links from the breeders web site to the pedigree database site you should be able to see this. Quinie's dam's side seems to be ok, and the sire of the litter Rayjo looks like he is from working lines - no major drama there. Wherever you see things before a dog's pedigree name like VA2, V12, v18 - that to me looks like those dogs have been entered in shows - although all gsd's used for breeding in germany must be titled (the vast majority in schutzhund) the standard which these shows dogs are asked to reach is much lower than say...the bsp!! there is schutzhund, and then there is schutzhund, if you follow what I mean.
You couldn't take one of those schutzhund titled show dogs to a WORKING DOG schutzhund trial with a WORKING LINES judge and helper and expect to do well. They just don't cut it. At my club I have seen a show line dog about 6-7 months old (1-2 months older than my boy) and he just doesn't have any intensity at all. The same goes for an older show line dog that trains every now and again - it's nobody's fault - it's just the way show line dogs are!! As for your comment along the lines of "I'd like a working line dog that kicks but of the field and is calm in the house - please - you're dreaming - unless you want your dog to trash the house - when you are not playing with them or working them - it's into the crate - and that is how you keep them calm in the house - you buy a crate!! Not trying to be harsh - but if I let my working line male out of the crate inside and have free roam - honesty , I'd have no house left!!! Good luck with your search for a pup!! best wishes from Aus.
Chris, I could load you up with all kinds of info on the lines...however I decided to play nice and keep it simple. The dam's side...no way, no how, not a chance I personally would own a dog out of this bitch (Timo--showline--over Nick...NO THANKS). Second, I tend to deconstruct and pick apart pedigrees on a regular basis, for myself, for my mentor, for other breeders, for the hell of it, and this one shows no real rhyme or reason to me. If there was a goal they were after, it's not one that's readily "visible" in the pedigree/lines.
I dont agree with Dave. You can have an awesome "kick ass dog" and a stable house dog at the same time.. A working dog has a stable temperament, they know how to adjust. That is why most of us want a working dog because they adjust so well to various conditions.. (Same goes for PP dogs)
BUT. If you want a POLICE dog... Then, they have to be crated at all times because of the type of training that they have...
I might be wrong, but that is my personal opinion.. Just my $.02
