I was down at the lake yesterday with my male GSD and the Doberman pup, just out for a goof off and some fishing. The dogs and I are out on the dock, they are both laying down, and my GSD is doing what he does, he watches the bobbers and growls when they go under. Anyway, this nitwit drives up and lets this male pitbull out of his car without a leash.
I watch as this dog decides to come onto the dock, making a beeline for my doberman pup. The guy is hollering "it is ok, he is alright", but I'm watching this unfold and everything is going ok when suddenly this dog growls at the doberman pup and all hell breaks loose. My GSD is across the dock before I can step on the leash and I'm watching this ball of teeth and fur scrambling across the dock, off the dock onto the grass, where my GSD pins this dog against a tree trunk and proceeds to kill it. I run up and grab the coller as the other guy grabs his dog's collar. I put both dogs into the jeep, and go to check on the other guys dog after looking over my GSD. This guy is laughing, his dog needs stitches, and he is laughing. People are CRAZY.

I am not proud to say that one of my "friends" (more like someone I know n hang out with occasionally) is exactly like that. He's the type who thinks organized dog fights are cool, he's been to one (I wish he hadn't told me) n keeps tellin me about this GSD that got torn apart by a pit or a rott or whatever it was, n how cool it was. He got bitten by an injured GSD when he was younger so he doesn't like em. He wants a puppy dobe, I hope he never owns a dog, his gf told me that you house break a puppy by rubbing a dogs nose in their urine till they freak out, or stop them digging by filling up their holes with water n holding their head in the hole.
People are crazy, they think animal abuse is funny. I will never understand it.

Kevin, I hope you don't take this as busting your ballz but if you think about it you could have prevented this also. Your dogs obviously weren't 100% in your control either. I definatly would have been up and at the controls, the minute I seen a car pulling up, that obviously means someones about to get out, with or without a dog. You seem to have been at a public place, and frankly, if others were about to visit the area you were in, you should not have had to attempt to "hurry up and step on the leash". There could be fireworks "literally" going off around my dog if I put him in the down/stay, he would stay there no matter what and I still would have had positive control of his leash if in public with strangers pulling up, so I have to figure that your dog couldn't be recalled, or told to stay, yet you didn't have positive control over him with a lead, when his OB obviously wasn't Jonny on the spot. Second thing is you said everything was ok at first, but that was your fault for letting your pup mingle with a dog that **YOU** knew nothing about, You should never let a pup around an adult dog unless you know for sure that dog will do nothing to harm or scare your pup. The owner of the pitbull was absolutely dumb himself, but just as we have to be defensive drivers, we have to be defensive handlers, someone in situations has to step up and prevent things like this even if the others guy is the idiot. I just feel you could have prevented what happened. I know that sounds like ball bustin, but trust me my tone is that of a friend to another friend.

Don't worry Mike,
I believe that these people and others like them (not just animal abusers) will have to answer for things they say and do. There are many people out there that think there is nothing wrong with how they behave, and who are we to say? Really? Regardless, we will all have to pay our debt sooner or later.
As far as your "buddy" who likes the idea of 2 dogs fighting until one of them is dead or severly injured, Do you really want to be associated with this kind of person?
You aren't going to change his mind about his beliefs, but you can stay away from him.

He seemed ok when I first met him, but things change. I hope someone rubs his nose in his feces one day <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Don't want this to turn into a personal discussion, just re-inforcing the point that people are crazy and immoral.

Yep I go through that one over and over again. I learned a few things about my buddy ( Luke the GSD)

A guy that I know who is in to Pit Bulls argued with me one day saying that no GSD would ever stand a chance wining a fight against any Pit Bull. I guess this proved him wrong. I am totally against dogfights so I tried to ignore him on that conversation but he was really persistent in to trying to convince me. Unfortunately sometimes the truth comes out through events that majority of us don’t want to happen, but I guess that’s life.

Please, no one even comment on the above as that is very much off subject, and will only serve to get this thread locked by one of the moderators, plus we don't even want to go there, that is a can of worms that is not allowed on this board. Just a friendly reminder.

Agreed. My appologies as I never meant anything bad on my comments but I guess it came out to harsh.

We are since fishing elsewhere. Luke will down/stay pretty good, and has always looked towards me for that guidance in situations where he wasn't quite sure of it. I think that the pup's presence pushed this a bit, so in the future I will take one at a time.
