he said, to get your dog to come, you should throw something at him (something soft, lol, like a pair of socks)
his idea behind it was that your dog would smell your scent, and be confused...and think that no matter where he is, you can touch him...like its an extenstion of yourself...
if i throw something at my dog, he things its a chew toy...he doesnt come back to me, lol
That method is realy forceful ???
any suggestions?

The sock throw works on cats...
I have a whole book devoted to it the method is called "the magic touch" Apparently you can solve any and every problem by throwing stuff at your dog.
But it does work on cats.....

This works quite well with humans. Try this experiment. Have your friends chuck heavy metal objects at you for a period of one month. Then give us your results at the end of the month

You thought up the experiment.......it's only fair that you get to do it.

Well , he does say to choose an object of appropriate size and throw it with appropriate force (not at the dog but near it)
I don't know - with my dogs I would use a big shoe - but my aim is terrible and I'd probably hit the dog.
Really, I think it's a clumsy method and a well-used shock collar would give better results. Mostly because the shock collar desn't smell like you so the dog doesn't wait for you to leave to do something wrong. It would be hard to have perfect timing. And it's safe for people with bad aim
Now if you still prefer to avoid the shock collar - I remember Cesar Millan uses an airsoft gun. I've been hit by airsoft pellets and it really does not hurt. You would just need to find a CO2 powered small one - so it's unobtrusive and silent. And I don't recommend using it in public - imagine the looks you'd get !

I think that if you use a little common sense, throwing things at animals is pretty pathetic.

Yes. In the book it says (roughly) if the dog is excited to go out for a walk and crazy, throw the leash at them.
How about "sit"?

One Amazon reader reviewed this book (which I have been thinking was a joke..........turns out it's real). Roger Steinbach at Amazon.com wrote the following:
QUOTE: Paul Leob claims that if you follow the instructions in his book, your dog will have a 100% reliable recall - except for when he's eating, sleeping, and the occasional reminders. And if you socialize your puppy with other dogs, he will "only pick up bad habits and parasites." Oh yes, and you should never ever use an evil little crate.
And of course we believe him because he's an EXPERT. (Just ignore his first chapter on how you shouldn't listen to so-called "experts," okay?)
Loeb seems to make a point of disagreeing with anything that has ever been written about dogs before, which usually leads him to false, or at least far-fetched, conclusions. He even gives his thoughts on why dogs get bloat - even though vets are pretty sure they know by know (and it wasn't what he said, either). But they're experts, so don't listen to them. Listen to Leob.
Paul Leob's hypocrisy is infuriating, and his training techniques (which rely on throwing things at your dog) are dubious. I would strongly recommend just about any other training or behavior book, perhaps "The Other End of the Leash" by Patricia McConnell END QUOTE
