A great herbal supplement for calming acid in the stomach is de-glycyrrhizinated licorice (DGL). Prescription acid reducers can cause food to not be digested well enough - that acid is there for a reason, even if there is too much of it. I haven't given these to my dogs; my boyfriend takes them for his very severe GERD. I wouldn't give a dog a prescription drug; my boyfriend won't even take precription acid reducers because they have only been around for 10 years and the long-term effects aren't known. I am sure they are safe to give your dog occasionally but these licorice tablets work great - better than precription drugs for my BF - and they are all natural with no side effects.
