John,
What you did was not at all a good idea. It looks like you are not a careful pet owner. If you continue to stand there and enjoyed seeing this with blood on the sleeves, then it is a bigger issue.
It is just a chance that the older dog did not do anything now. It is never a good idea to let an older and a younger dog play this aggressively. Your pup could have been bitten/ badly injured. You are also teaching your pup to be aggressive towards other animals.
Take your time and do research on Leerburg.com.
There is nothing funny about the video.

I agree with Rashmir, IMO this is a dogfight waiting to happen. When I first got my Mal pup (who is HIGH drive) she was in the living room and tried to take something away from my Bloodhound by tugging with him. Before I could get to them the Bloodhound growled and it engaged her to fight back (at 10 weeks). Thankfully my hound knew not to take it any further because she was just a pup. I am only saying that you never know what is going to happen and letting a dog tug with a Pit who more often than not has a grip like a vice may be asking for trouble. (I am NOT picking on Pits, it can happen with any two dogs wrestling for a toy) Not to mention that since it was during teething time it could have done some serious damage ripping out teeth that may heve been loose but were not ready to come out. This is just my opinion and although I still want to revert to the typical PET owners "Oh isn't that cute...." comment I have learned that it is not cute behaviour and can ultimately end up in unneeded vet bills or worse.

Rashmi, I may be wrong but I took John's message to be that his dog was fine for the entire time (or at least John thought that was the case) until the very end when his dog stopped, there was blood. If you are right Rashmi then, John, I'm mad too ! I think John didn't know though that his dog may have hurt his tooth until the end.
Assuming the blood/injury didn't happen...Rashmi do you think it's OK for dogs who know each other well to play like that? Is the problem that they could end up fighting even though they know each other well or is it that if John wants to do bitework, the dog is too young? I'm confused .

accident waiting to happen....i have owned several pits and other dogs at the same time. i would not recommend letting them play this way. who knows if somthing would trigger them to fight you would have a big mess on your hands. the writing is on the wall for a tragic accident. i'm no priofessional but from my experience this video shows a accident in the making. just my 2 cents, the video is not "cute", but "scary"

Ok.. maybe I haven't made myself clear..
1- I know the pit's termperment..
2- both were leashed
3- if I had the slightest doubt about the pit I wouldn't have done this..
4- read my post more closely you'll see that I SAY NOT TO DO WHAT I DID.. THIS WAS a ONE TIME OCCURANCE that I Don't recommend anyone do.
5- as for blood on the sleeve.. last I checked he hadn't begin teething since he was biting hard and didn't seem "off" in biting. I noticed the blood after he let go (if you read my post) I'm also going to stop bitework for a while
6- Please don't get me wrong.. I realize what I did shouldn't be done.. It just happended and I let it since, like I said, I 110% know the pit. and I have the pit on a solid "OUT"..
7- My point in posting was just to show how hard my pup can bite/grip even up against the famous grip of a pit (no harm done)
8- No , my pup isn't aggressive with animals nor people .. he acts like they don't exist.. (i'm doing everything) (with this incident) by the book..
9- I don't appreciate being called a careless pet owner.. Thank you..

I think people had valid points, but they unfortunately are lacking in the delivery department. The one thing I would have done differently was hold the side of the tug that the pit had so he didn't accidentally pull your pups teeth out, teething or not. I've let my dogs play like this when I'm right there, carefully watching them. I've found it somewhat helpful in teaching a code of conduct in their dealings with one another- while I'm right there to hand out a correction if I see something I don't like. I don't know anything about pure breed pit ownership though.

John,
It is good to see that you are not going to do this again.
Nowhere on your original post you had mentioned that the dogs were leashed. And by the look of the video, I don't see the LEASH. Can dogs move that freely with the leash attached? Also you asked your friend, " ...Let him loose" What does that mean?
Nevertheless instead of going back and forth on this--- I was just trying to tell you and the others who thought the video was CUTE.
Also, if you had done your research, this “One time event” would never have taken place. This is not a way to test grip on a 4 ½ months old puppy.
It is not about you knowing the pit bull. In the end they are animals and just because you know him for xxx numbers of years does not mean it is 100% safe. Also, as your puppy is only 4 1/2 months old- that means he has been with your only for 2 ½ months of age…how long has he know the Pit Bull?? Even if they have known each other for the complete 2 ½ months, it is still not enough time for the two dogs to tolerate each other.

Rashmi, do you know what they're saying in the video? If so could you translate?
