You very well may be right, Jan. My question is what other things did the breeder see in the pup that changed from him first being determined to be independent to shortly becoming "clingy". Cause if it was just based on him being in the crate and alone, I wouldn't make a call on the dog's personality just based on that alone, not at such a young age and at such an early period of crate training.
To answer your question, when he was younger, he didn't come to clapping like the other puppies did, he was the only puppy who had ever slept alone, he didn't play with the other puppies, and he was the least interested in the breeder when she was in the whelping room.
Once the other puppies went home (he's staying 2 extra weeks because of my schedule), he started following the breeder everywhere, started crying when the breeder left the whelping room (even though there's another puppy with him), and he comes running when the breeder even looks at him. Heh.
Also, thanks for the last post, about the training. I guess that's sort of a no brainer and yet I didn't think of it! Hah. Thanks.
You're welcome about the training - I'm sure you already knew that, you just got caught up in the moment of velcro vs independent
Given the pup's situation, it still sounds normal to me, barring the training we were talking about. I'll bet he ends up being a well-rounded pup once you get him and work with him. He's just a little unsure right now, that's what sounds so normal to me.
