Ringsport,
I would say if you dog has never been on a raw diet and has ben eating kibble for a long time, and you are just starting out... give it time.. some dogs protest at first with the raw food, if he ate rabbit he will eat the rest... try diffrent things... chicken carcas turkey necks, and give him stuff he likes, then start to put in the stuff he wouldn't eat b4, you will be suprised he will gobble it all up in time.... and if he would rather go hungry.. let him, no dog will starve himself to death, unless he is sick or something. Remember your the boss, and he eats what you tell him to eat.
Give it time.... let me say it one more time.. Give it time. In the long run you are doing your dog a great favor, he just don't know it yet.
Leute mögen Hunde, aber Leute LIEBEN ausgebildete Hunde!
Thanks Lonnie, I'll hang in there. I started this diet to extend the dogs life and improve it's overall quality of life. It is a slow transition. First I mixed in the barf with cooked hamburger. She ate that fine. Then I transitioned too fast to straight barf and she wolfed it down then threw it up. Now I'm back to mixing (and no I haven't been including enzimes to help with digestion).
PS. I told my wife that I'm going to start making hamburgers out of the barf and invite club members over for a bar-b-que. Hmmmmm..BARF BURGERS!!! "Honey would you grind up a few more chicken backs for the kids? Junior wants another lamb heart but he won't touch it if it's cooked".
I think I will just increase the meat, add cottage cheese & some more chicken backs & see what happens. My dogs have no acceptance problems with any food. The bowls are empty in 30 seconds, every night, 10 seconds the night after fasting.
They certainly look & feel great, I guess more food is the answer.
Easy with the enzymes (Prozyme) on a regular basis. By adding enzymes you are destroying the body's ability to make it's own. I prefer to add whole, raw green tripe. It's got the fat, it's got the enzymes, it cleans teeth better than any bone... what more could you ask for?
