i get the same kind of comments on my 2 GSD pups, they 7 months now , and they are both full shouldered tall and muscular, but there waist is narrow. but they are still not as thing as it has said they should be on this site...
there was a few posts i read about when they are working there 2 lower ribs should be showing, mine dont show any ribs...
its like everyone has said. if his healthy and happy dont make him gain weight.
if u have a problem where he doesnt want to eat the food when u give it to him, then fast for a day and feed again, thats what i do with mine. they should eat when i feed them. and the day they dont eat and just ignore the food i 1stly check r they healthy and happy to go running around then fast them 4 a day and then when i feed them they eat fine.
give him some time...im sure he wil fill out just like all other GSDs once they are mature
Terry, I had the same thought that Melissa mentioned - it's possible Coach isn't getting enough nutrition from his food due to poor digestion. It's more than worth looking into and getting the test done that she mentioned.
Sorry to hear that strangers feel your dog is their business! I get the same comments, sneers, and glares when I bring my dog out in public. She's a husky/aussie mix, I'm not surprised at her weight, she's teetering at 40lb and may look skinny, but eats well and gets regular exercise. I've had several vets look at her and do tests because when I got her, she was slightly underweight and wouldn't gain weight the first 3-4 months I had her. Ends up she had a small bacterial infection in her digestive tract, and as soon as she got well she gained weight and looks like she does today.
I always laugh when someone approaches me in, say, PetsMart with their sickeningly obese dog and go, "Oh my god, are you FEEDING your dog? What do you feed it? I feed mine IAMS/Kibbles-N-Bits/Alpo!"
Well, at least my dog walks and not waddles. She may be skinny but she's healthy.
Good luck with yours, I hope it isn't something serious. :P
