As far as kibble is concerned, I like Eagle Pack and the dogs are doing very well on it. I still give Raw and some supplements, but I like having a kibble to fall back on.
I switched to Eagle Pack for the kibble portion of my dogs food. I use the Hollistic Duck formula. It's made locally (IN) and the quality is very good.
Though raw is the best food for your dog, all of the kibbles that you mentioned are good. You could also look into Innova and Solid Gold.
In addition to mixing some of the old kibble with the new, you can add some acidophilus (about 1/4 tsp of powdered form). That will help in the transition from one food to another.

Has anyone heard of Nature's Variety Prairie food?
I've been researching their Raw Frozen, Kibble and Canned products but have never heard of this brand before. Is one type of their product better than another?
Feedback is appreciated...thanks all!

Our dog also had the smell problem when we fed Euk. But it was the only food our dog wouldn't snub her nose at. I found Flint River Ranch and she loved it. She even put on some much needed weight. New puppy loved it but it seemed to cause the runs with him. Just switched to Canidae and no more cleaning up the yard with a spatula.
If you start feeding canidae and you notice your dog starts scratching like it has fleas when it doesn't, switch!!!!! Myself and alot of breeders in my area fed it until last year when they switched the formula and really messed up our dogs with all the scratching and itching. Just keep an eye out.
Angela,
That's interesting because some folk's dogs thrive on certain foods while others become a total mess. I switched my Golden to Nutro 2 months ago and his skin has gradually gotten worse. He was eating Wellness until a good friend recommended Nutro - her Irish Wolfhounds health and coats were amazing once she put them on it, plus it has glucosamine for joints, etc. Well, seems like my dog is getting worse since we switched. At first I thought maybe fleas, though I can't find any on him, then I thought maybe allergies or something in the grass because we are in Fla and have had unusually warm weather lately. Now he's starting to get hot spots/lick sores and last night he kept scratching and waking me up - this morning his belly and legs were so red!
We are now transitioning back to Chicken Soup since he did very well on that and I liked their ingredients better than Wellness. I am also researching Natures Variety Prairie raw and kibble since I've read that it is supposed to be excellent for Goldens.
Any suggestions for what might help him get through the "itchies" until the new food kicks in? How long did it take your dogs it show signs of improvement?
Thanks for your help! Kate

They won't get thru the itchies After having to take one pet male in for cortisone shots and determing it was the food formula change (had been on canidae for years) I put him and everybody else on raw. Other people that fed Canidae were having the same problems and have switched to other brands.
