Jennifer Mullen Webboard User Reg: 08-16-2007 Posts: 2365 Loc: Toronto, Ontario, Canada Offline	i hope so! dare to dream i've actually been wondering about when to do the positive reinforcement. i wasn't sure last night - it was a big step and she did great, but she was still showing some stress - breathing heavily - i wasn't sure if i praised her that i'd be marking/praising that stress reaction (albeit far lesser than usual) rather than her improved behaviour. what i ended up doing was talking to her in a happy voice but not praising her, and once she stopped the heavy breathing (the dog was out of sight) i praised and petted her. is that right? should i be praising her sooner? Teagan!

What you're doing sounds right to me. Seems like w/ her, the timing will be very crucial in encouraging the calm behavior. And probably better to err on the side of caution, especially since she gives off very subtle signs as to the state of her mind.
