Thanks for all the great advice. I taped the one ear that was down today. Then tonight I looked over at her and and wam!! the other ear went down. I think I going to tape that one to this is driving me crazy. I also have a male his ears were up at 5 months.
Well I taped my 7 month female ears like everyone suggested. its been 8 days and I took them off today. both ears stood up, for awhile then one went down. then took both dogs to park to run and her ears are up all the time she is running or playing, then at home boom one goes down. Its driving me nuts. should I tape them again? I ready to give up.
Hi! I'm here only to give my experience with my dog Kaisers' ears. I purchased him at 5 months old (10/31/10). One ear had just stood because it had been taped. The other one still down. Well, I searched internet constantly reading up on puppy ears. The breeder I got him from assured me it was from teething, not to worry. He was raised on Eukanuba large breed puppy. Well, I started taping the ear. Would take down after so long and the ear would stand for so many days then back down. Yes, he was teething til 6 months old. Well, after 3 weeks the ear that was up fell too! His ears were soft as jello even when up. From tip to base they wiggled like jello! UGH!!! Sicking to say the least as I paid $800.00 for him! Read some people give knox gelatin and calcium supplements or yogurt for the calcium. Was scared to because so many people said not to give extra calcium as it is bad for there joints and there dog food has what they need. So,after all my taping, he is 7 months old now 12/20/10 and 70 lbs(very large boned). I started him on knox gelatin a week ago. No difference. 3 days ago, I added the heaping tablespoon plain yogurt. Went out to play with him today and there was a big difference in the firmness of his ears. When he walked they didn't hardly wiggle, only when he ran, which is a major improvement!!I hope I haven't waited to late. At 5 months took to the vet with ear taped and vet said he doubt it would stand. Both ears up at this point and since the ears are firming now, hope I don't have to tape any more. Just wish I had tried earlier. Just wanted to give people hope.I'm not giving up until he turns a year old. Then what ever is I will except. He is an awesome dog and I will love him if they fall forever, but You do want your dog to look like his breed! lol The large breed puppy cuts back on calcium, I've read to much is bad for there joints. So I don't know if weak ears is part of problem or if he just needed the calcium or both. I will re-post in a few weeks to update if it helped him firm up ears more, (if Its not to late at his age). My daughter seen him today and she could really tell the difference too. hope this helps other people.
