And, you might get lucky and your pup may not be a 'talker'.
My pup (7 weeks when we got her) whined for 10 minutes the first night, then slept for 5 hours. Next night, she whined for 5 minutes, and then after that almost never cried in her crate.
(This, however, is probably not the norm.)
The other thing I did was to put a recently worn, rolled up white cotton sock in with her.

Thanks for the replies. This helps quite a bit.
I am definatley 100% on board with the program and will not give into incessant screaming. I just want to have all the information before my puppy arrives.

Thanks again!
Kurt, I just wanted to say that you should be an inspiration to new puppy owners. To get so far ahead of the game and have a game plan this way is awesome! This board has gone over just about EVERY mistake, issue and problem a puppy can have, and has so many ways to solve each one, that you are on your way to becoming an expert at puppy raising, feeding and training before your pup sets foot in your house!

Thanks. I'm getting a Malinois puppy this weekend (8 weeks old). I'm very excited about it. My previous dog was a GSD rescue and I'm ashamed to say that the only dog training knowledge I had at the time was a book I read which pretty much instructed yank and crank techniques. I got turned on to Leerburg.com about 2 months ago and between reading Ed's articles (which I think I've printed out and read ALL of them), watching his DVDs, and reading posts on this message board, my knowledge in dog training has grown exponentially. I feel like an 'expert' when compared to what I knew before, although I know that's not true. The worst part, however, is that I now feel like a world-class TURD for some of the mistakes I made with poor, sweet Sitka (my GSD).
I was actually turned on to Leerburg.com by a Malinois Rescue Group member. Much of what I've learned form this site has helped me decide to start my training with 'raw material' (a puppy).
