Whew, 40 hours x2! Maybe you can fly out there and fly him back under your seat if they even still allow that. Or others will post experiences with ground transp. companies.

I think someone told me if they were 8 weeks or older they could fly with you....but do you have to buy a plane ticket for the dog? She said her land service was great, but I know nothing about it. I would be willing to meet them half way also. So we will see. Flight would be the easiest. But, I don't want to end up with a messed up dog that was neglected or something.
If the puppy weighs less than 15 pounds and can fit in one of those carry on travel pet bags, you can take the pup on the plane. If it is significantly bigger they will make the pup fly as additional baggage. The costs depend on the airline.
I am not a huge fan of flying dogs but I will do it. Frost is 2.5 years old and will be making her 3rd flight next week. She and Poe are the only dogs that I have flown. There are several things that you can do to help ensure your dog has a safe trip but that is a whole other post :-)
Our older one flew during hurricane Ivan in cargo and we literally had to peel him out of the crate. He peed in that crate every time we put him in and absolutely hated it. I had to go and get a new crate. I wonder what that flight was like. So when we got the other one I flew myself and met the breeder at the airport. I had to pay $100 for the puppy. Depends on the airline. I heard that there is an airline that only transports animals inside the cabin? No people?
Or, you can learn to fly and avoid all the hassles now associated with commercial flights and TSA.
One of they guys at the local airport used his wife's desire to show her dogs as a 'justification' for a nice, roomy twin-engine plane.
I hauled my guy, Chance, back from Menomonie in the back of a Mooney. It was an adventure -- Chance, 8 months old at the time, loved the flight. The folks at the Menomonie airport loved him too. As I recall, one guy asked if I was 'DEA'. We diverted to Jackson, MI, to wait out storms rolling along the MI-OH state line. Folks there thought he was a really nice and good looking dog. Chance has always been the charmer. I even managed to pick most of the hair out of the velour seats in the retired patrol car they loaned to me to make the run to Leerburgs.
Met a couple at the Lincoln NE airport from North Dakota. The wife was somewhat disabled. Her assistance dog always flew with them.
Sam Walton used carry his hunting dogs around in his plane. One of the columnists for Flying magazine often comments on his series of Goldens who have been regular companions on his flights.
Worried about their hearing? They even make special head sets for dogs now.
