Yes, I do mean fish oil. I use the Omega-3 Nordic Naturals and was doing the math from the label which says in large print. "OMEGA-3" so I guess I got stuck on it. Egads! a pre-senior moment. Sorry for the confusion.
My vet's practice is traditional but over the 10 years I have been taking Thor; more and more alternative therapies are available and all three vets in the practice are willing to work with you. I boarded Thor overnight when I moved my daughter back to college and they fed him his raw meal. So I do feel fortunate to have them.
About the mat; the question is will he lay on it? Of all the possible sleeping surfaces in my house he chooses the stone floor. For instance it is cool and damp today and his bed is two feet from where he is laying and has the same view but he prefers the stone floor.....go figure. I'm sure, that is great on his joints.
I guess if he doesn't use it I could use it myself... Thanks again Connie you are a wealth of information and now that I know the calorie difference is minimal I'll go up to the 15000 mg.
If I wrote that testimonial again now, two years later, it would only be MORE glowing.
Connie- I agree. Those mats are AMAZING!!!! We use them at the rescue I work at (which is chock-full of senior, premanent residents. for example, 14 yr old Dal, and 17 yr old golden!) They LOVE them! My old GSD/Rott had one as well. Never left it!

My experience (with two now) is that they will when they want the heat. I leave it plugged in almost always, unless it's hot out (this is not a source of ambient heat increase; it's mildly warm to the touch). The most arthritic guy will head for it as soon as he eats breakfast and will use it for 45 minutes or less at a time. I suspect that he warms up his joints (he has HD and arthritis in his spine and hips) and then leaves it. If it's damp out, I'll sometimes see two of them curled up on it. The one with minor OA uses it far less than the one with pretty severe OA (the one on NSAIDs).
