Two GSDs at present. Thunder and Trooper.
Thunder was named after a GSDxDane that was the best of a number of dogs my daughters grew up with. The wife was unhappy using that name because she loved the first Thunder. He was very Protective/watchful of the girls and the wife but I saw great potential in Thunder II during his puppy testing. He didn't let me down. He was unbelievably at the top of my lifetime greats by the time he was 6-7 months old.
Trooper was so named because his breeder was ex Missouri HP. He's a dufus and way to handler soft for my liking but I love the clown anyway.
Callie is my tri-colored border collie, (calico). After the breeder let me name her I found out how many use the name. She is an awesome working dog.
Aggie is my husband's Aussie. Aggie can stand for agriculture, ag booster, or the university. Out of supposedly working parents, the only "work" she does is bark, and bark, and bark. She does ride in the pickup when checking cows and my husband is happy with that.
Molly is my husband's blue heeler. Promising cattle dog, a little soft, have to handle with kid gloves when training.
Splash is my 16 yr old son's red tri border collie. He was 8 or nine when he got her. Could not talk him out of the name. She absolutely adores him! Listens to us unless my son is around then we might as well be invisible. She will not work stock but loving him is enough.
Bob is my female blue heeler. My son didn't want me getting a puppy and so started calling her Bob to aggravate me. I kept the name because it is unique. She is tough, smart, and making a whale of a cowdog.
My SIL has named her 3 daschunds Hawker, Soccata, and Malibu after the jets she has or is getting next. LOL And yes, they are spoiled rotten!
I have one Aussie, Gunner. My last dog was a crazy, aggressive albino doberman that we had to put to sleep. He was named Bullet. Gunner was named in honor of Bullet, who I desperately loved but was a danger to anyone he was around.
Duane, most of the relatives on my husbands side went to A&M! Besides we are in agriculture.
As for Splash, I just thought about how "un-cool" it would sound as he got older. He doesn't care. Oh well, he even forgave her for not mastering the "stay" command in obedience class. She has a real issue about being right next to him, preferrably with him petting her. What a pair.
Bandy was named after the song "Bandy the Rodeo Clown" we were looking for some western sounding names. And he was a little bandy-legged at the time.
Foxy was originally named sophie but that sounded too spoiled and since she is a little lapdog I wanted to give her something that reflected how quick and clever she was, so I went with foxy.
Nikita is the call name of my new pup whose registered name will be Ginger V. Mathenhaus. I like the name Nikita and it means unconquerable. And I do like the TV show...
I searched through female German names and settled on "Zoey" the meaning of life. I think it was Zoe pronounced Zo-ee and variante ways to spell it I liked Zoey, she does bring meaning to life.
