She has always had a problem with diarrhea. First vet said some dogs are just like that. Eventually I changed vets. For the last year or so she has been on taste of the wild. I would give her 3/4 cup of that and mix 1/4 cup of boiled chicken. I was told about this vet that I have now and that she was good. So I took Mojo in to see if we could find out about the diarrhea.
Connie, I believe she did a blood test and that was it on our first visit. That's when she suggested changing foods. You are correct about the food. She has been on the Rx for a Couple months now. And just started the throwing up ( 3 weeks). I feed her in a stainless steel bowl and water.
I have also started keeping a journal. Over a week now. Also have a few
Pictures just in case the vet wants to see them. Since she first statrted throwing up, there have been NO treats. Nothing other than the Rx food.
She also seems to be more thirsty.
I wish I knew what was wrong. My vet said she had a dog with similar issue. They didn't find out the cause until they did the scope thing. Found it to be cancer.
Perhaps the onset of the vomiting came with a new bag of dog food?
I'd purchase a small quantity of a different bag, same or different "flavor", doesn't matter, different lot #. Just to rule out the food.
This dog is spayed?
One does worry about bad things in a 7 going on 8 yr old big dog with sudden onset of vomiting and weight loss.
Any ticks where you live?
How about disappearing toys, socks, big rawhides rapidly consumed. Baby bottle nipples? Do you have a baby? Foreign bodies other than bones sometimes don't show up on Xrays. Foreign bodies can cause intermittent vomiting.
I don't know if this is relevant, but could she have got to something in the garden that may have seemed innocuous? I only ask because I had this recently with one of the bitches, and long story short, she had a bout of acute pancreatitis, brought on by eating a fat ball I had put out for the birds that had come off the feeding pole in the high winds.
She was vomiting in the manner you describe, and the weight fell off at an alarming rate, the vet said if I hadn't have been able to tell her what caused the vomiting and malaise, the diagnosis would have taken longer, and all the tests that would have been used, would have been process of elimination.
I have another scavenger in the pack who had the same thing a few years back, but we didn't know what she had got to, so diagnosis took longer.
Sorry your girl is poorly, and I know how easily we imagine the worst, but try to stay positive, hopefully you will get some improvement soon.
HI Tracy, I will try changing the bag of food (same kind) new bag. Also she is only in the yard when i am there and i watch her pretty good. She has not gotten into anything I know of.
Today I fed her at about 8:30 (pepcid 1 hour before). we went for a walk and 10 minutes into that walk she started chomping and licking her her mussel. (Nausea per the vet). She ate some green grass. Continued walk for about a half hour and came home. She continued to lick and chomp. As soon as we got home and she drank some water she instantly threw up. Since i didnt give her much food (1/4 cup) this morning she didnt throw up much but liquid. Brown and White foam. Like a raw egg consistency. This is driving me crazy. This morning before we went on our walk she was playing for a couple minutes doing zoomies. She seemed good. When I mentioned going for a walk she was excited to go.
