I have to say my musical tastes are very eclectic. I can enjoy anything from Bill Monroe and Blue grass to Madam Butterfly and most anything in between. I do have to admit to early blues to being somewhat of a fav.
This is as good as it gets IMHO! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIvka3SSv9Y
It would be great if folks posted Modern Rock faves along with maybe one or two of the influences. (If anyone is interested.)
Ok...
Starting with the links that David posted from Halestorm, it is abundantly clear that the front (Lzzy, short for Elizabeth) is influenced greatly by Heart and Ann Wilson. However, in some of her stripped down stuff I can hear glimpses of Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane) and some more current artists, such as Alanis Morrisette, Pink, and Sarah Bareilles. Her acoustic stuff sounds very similar to Adele, who I am also crazy about. However, in this tune, American Boys
I also hear threads of Foghat and some of the anthem bands of the early eighties.
This is by Temple of the Dog, a side project of members of Pearl Jam and Soundgarden... Hunger Strike
Though members list some of their influences as Led Zeppelin, Neil Young, and Kiss, to me I can hear inklings of Pink Floyd and the Doors. Although I've never heard him say it myself, I suspect that the lyricist/vocalist, Eddie Vedder, was very heavily influenced by Jim Morrison.
I was finally able to listen to some of the Halestorm selections posted by
Duane, above, and by David, a couple pages ago, plus I listened to several more suggested by Youtube. While "American Boys" is a little too loud for my taste (what we used to call head-banging rock, lol), I really enjoyed most of it. More my style:
