Farrier day, so extrem leave it. Hoof cliping just make the dogs nuts. And tell the farrier not to give/trow cliping to the dogs.
Polish the out and hold.

Tracking this morning was an extended version of the mini-track that we had done in the front yard the past two days. Went back to a familiar field. Rain has stopped, but the ground is still soaked, so the ants have been preoccupied with building new hills.
Legs were 50m, 30m, 30m respectively, with soft turns. articles were 2-1-2. Bait was random on the first two legs, and less bait in the turns. Third leg was unbaited, with an article halfway to the end.
Sadie was exceptionally solid until the fourth article, then she picked her head up off the track and didn't indicate the end of the track. It wasn't windy, so I'm not sure why she quit on the trail. Two possibilities that I'm considering are (a) frustrated that there wasn't any bait, but we've been working with less, so I'm not so sure, or (b) I got in a hurry close to the end when I laid the track and got sloppy.
Grade= B.

400m long track, no bait and just ramdom walking through tall grass, fresh cut grass, some sand, mud, bushes, high sun and shade.
Harley was just great, even the sharp turn off the trail into the dense bush did but bugged him. I goofed on one 30m stretch where I bushed wack some grass with the tractor after I laied the track. That did not influence the work.
He could not follow me back home as I walk back in the riding ring (100m long sand)

Tracked on a new field, with a different lay. One soft turn after a few feet, just to stay in practice, then a 60m leg with article every 10m, and one piece of bait between each article. Goal is to reduce amount of bait in order to (a) encourage her to track whether there is bait or not, and (b) eliminate influence of ants; looks like this summer will be brutal with insects.
Sadie tracked fine. She was solid thru the turn, checking both sides to make sure she was on the right scent. She tracked surely with a deep nose, but wanted to hurry a bit (pbly expecting to find more bait, but that's okay; we'll work that out as long as she's tracking true scent). However, she failed to indicate the first two articles. After the second one, I pulled her from the track in a circle, which is how I redirect any behavior, and put her back on the track. From that point on she was steady as a rock with excellent indications and positioning.

Repeated same track as yesterday, with more methodical tracking and much better results on the articles. She did break before released at the end, pbly due to the exhuberant tone in my praise, but that was the only deduction.

Crazy fun track with Harley. I wanted to challange him. About 2km and 5 treats and a hidden jack pot at the end.
Started in dry sand and grass, to a bogg of tall grass and mud in the wood, to an open field of low grass, into a path of well over 5' tall weeds, down over a creek, in the wooded trails and random path from trail to trail off path, over a muddy ditch and back to a sand and dry grass area.
I did not keep track of turns and how many trees I went over.
I let Harley go at his pace, fast trot. He did not go off at all even when there were 3 direction he could have gone to or use a trail that is used by many friends to walk their dogs. Did not even look at the deer. The line got tangled in some branches at one point and some branches went flying, Harley kept going.
He did slow down in mud and truns and go really slow in sand and dry grass. It was fun to see him work the tall weeds. He would smell the ground and the weed to make sure he was on the good path.
He ended the track by jumping on the jack pot container!! And as usual for him he tracked me back to the back door of the riding arena.
Ok We would not win any competition but he could find me, if I get lost. Too bad our SAR do not want a dobe.

Today Walked Cody and he did well. He heard one noise that used to make him hide, the beeping of a trash truck backing up. But today, he just marched along. I was grateful.
Played with him tonight, did review; Touch, pick it up (there are things he doesn't like to pick up, leather, or hard plastic), Touch a ball, heel, wait, through, moving into heel position, mat, crawl. When we walked we found some things to jump, gave him the "over" command, he jumped over them.
Then took bindi out. She is not interested in other dogs that walk by. when at our training center she does not show the least interest in other dogs. but now she is distracted by them when she is out walking. Have to work on that. We are taking her to an obedience match so she can get used to the noise and excitement all around her. (Planning to have her compete in rally obedience) I want to help her adjust to the atmosphere of the match.
Today Terra allowed me to put medicine in her ear. That is great progress. (She has some pollen allergies right now, needs ear drops). Well that is it for me. Haven't had much time to train the pups been helping my son move. Next week we will be going camping with the dogs so that will be a great time for them.

Very hot and muggy so I set the track in the woods again. Went through creek at regular intevals and some stretch across heavily use fields.
3 gloves used as articles and 2 baits and hot dogs in the end container. More or less 2km with lots of bitting bugs.
Harley was great, he did lay down in the creek to cool off and had no interest in tracking me back home once released at the end he went directly into the shade to cool some.
