Jeff
Where did you get this fast remote car and where can I get one. I have two high drive dogs that would probably love this. (we have, oh, less than 1/2 inch of snow). You say your dogs can't catch it?
They are competition level remotes...not your Toys "R" Us $100 variety. I used to race competition off road remotes. Take a dirt bike track and scale it down...huge jumps and the whole bit. I will give you a link to the one my dogs chase...it is gas powered. My electric 2 wheel drive buggy was clocked by a cop as a favor to me and the electric one hit 47 mph! He couldn't believe it. The batteries only last about 5 mins with those FAST motors though and about 18-20 mins with stock motors...hence about 9 battery packs...anyways...here is the link to mine... http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMYA2&P=0
Mine was a kit and you need about another $200 in servos and radio control and fuel...the kits never come with it...you build it yourself and put what you want to add into it to complete it.
They do have ready-to-runs...just have to break in the motor for a couple tanks of gas. Here is the link to the same that I have without the additional add-ons.

Unfortunately, these are nearly as time consuming as a dog is...when you first start out that is...but talk about building PREY DRIVE!!! Our shepherds DID NOT STOP. They were even so winded that they would just walk towards it...even when they couldn't run! The remotes have a 1/4 mile range so you will lose sight of them before you lose control! hope this helps for you and anyone else. The gas ones are great in a couple inches or less of snow too...(electrics don't like getting wet)as long as it is 4 wheel drive...plus if you break ANYTHING on them, you can replace the part just like on a full size car, truck or motorcycle.

In Ceasar Millan's book, he suggests training your dog to walk on a treadmill. Has anyone tried this? I'm thinking about it. I take my dog for a 30 minute walk just about every day, as much for me as for him, and as the weather has gotten wetter and colder I've been thinking about getting either a treadmill or an elliptical trainer for myself. If it really is possible to train a dog to use a treadmill, that would affect my decision.
Well I have a friend who trained his boxer to run on one of those kid size merry go rounds that you see at parks. he had one in his back yard! The dog would hop on it and start to run, thus getting the merry go round spinning and then he would be able to run in place. The dog was absolutely shredded with muscles and endurance, plus he only needs a 12 foot space to do it. I guess if my buddy could teach his dog this, I assume it would be possible to teach your dog a treadmill run. Just my opinion. Not a bad idea given we have a treadmill in the basement. I think I found a new winter hobby for my pup!

I just googled "treadmill dog" looking for a funny picture I remember seeing some time ago. Anyway, there is all kinds of stuff online for doggie treadmills! There was even one that looked like a giant hampster wheel!

Colorado and it is below zero a lot at night when I walk the pup.
That pup I have just does not care how cold it gets. Long hair and hyper. Man is she bonkers. i have to admit now that the bitting is officially driving me nuts. She gets over the hard shake of the neck correction in about 2 seconds. I have now learned to enjoy walks in -15 degrees. Cover face plus hat. Always ware scarf.. wear more then one shirt. Legs throw on a pair of sweats over what ever. Gloves. Most important just make a pile of this crap in the corner of the closest. I can put all the crap on and off in about 30 seconds. No problem and a tired pup bites me alot less. I make sure my wife does not wash this stuff cause it then ends up in about three neat places that I am unawair of. HAHAHAh I am so happy my dog still has bite drive, but I guess it is time for some obedience hahahaha

Yes, something like this is what makes me do it without a lot of moaning ... if the gear is all together and near the door, with no gathering and hunting for it, all goes well.

South Dakota here, on the open plains with biting wind. I have tons of warm clothes and I also have a friend who has an indoor riding arena for training her barrel horses. Maybe you could find a riding facility that is somewhat close and see if you can exercise you pup there (when it is not occupied of course) out of the weather if it is really bad. We often load up and go over there when it is really cold and windy. It is not heated but takes the wind out of the equation. If it is not really windy, we are outside working.

I have you all beat. I live in Canada (in an igloo, of course ), and my backyard is so small that only the manchester can run, and even her little 18 pound body doesn't have much room. The vizsla mix goes bonkers if he doesn't have his exercise - thankfully he's a little saner now that he's a senior, but I can't forego walks. My step mom grew up in the Yukon, and still has her parka. You should see me, in the boots, parka, toque, mits, scarf, and away we go for our walks. It's warmer on walks than in the house!
