She gets a "no" when she does not listen, followed by a stimulation from the collar 1-2 secs later if the "no" didn't work. 9 times out of 10 all it takes is the "no" because she knows the stimuli is coming soon after. What I want, is to not have to tell her "no". She should be listening to my command and not ignoring it until she is told "no". Should she be getting a correction at the same time as the "no"? So this way she knows that when she doesn't sit when asked she will get a correction. Right now, the "no" is basically being used as a warning that a correction is coming if she doesn't smarten up. I would like to say, that this doesn't happen most the time. Most the time she listens, and 1 out of 10 she doesn't. But to me, that is too often.

So tell her "sit" then if she doesn't sit, say "no" AND at the same time, correct. This way she'll learn the command is "sit" not "no" and then later on off leash you can say "no" and it will have the power of the correction. This is a classic mistake... If you want to test the theory, try following "no" with "I'm gonna tell you ONCE MORE..." and then correct. Very soon you'll see her start to ignore "no" and only listen with "I'm gonna tell you ONCE MORE..." Seriously though, just start telling her ONCE and following with correction and no. Fix your problem in a jiffy. Some people don't even say "no" at all but I prefer to so that when I say "no" off lead it has some power. Good luck!

Right now I am training my now one year old male GSD, for our BH coming up in 6 months, I have a 3 year old male too, and we are doing our Schutz 1 again..Now my 1 year old, he knows all the basics, positioning, hill,sit, down, and all the commands in motion.But lately he likes to test me.When I tell him sit he sits slowly, when I tell him down he downs after a few seconds. I need him to respond faster and i know he knows how.SOO when I tell him sit and he doesn't I put him in a sit with a light correction and I say NOTHING, "NO" does not come into the picture at all. If he does not do any of the commands I have asked of him he gets a correction, "NO" never comes up .He gets correctedfor not doing the command I ask, but I never use "NO" in my exercises.And yes I always use motivational tools for when he does well.
