Yeah, puppies! Yeah, milk! Congrats Vanessa . I would still keep a very close eye on this new family; it was a very peculiar delivery. It's great that you got right on top of the possibility of infection, but I would still monitor that very closely. I've become paranoid in my old age .
Yes things are going good. I have 9 that are healthy as can be. Moving all around and nursing like little tornadoes. Mom is incredible, best mom out there. I will have pictures tomorrow. I have one that I'm bottle feeding, she can't get a good latch on mom, she just kind of "chews" her. Today she urinated while I was cleaning her so I'm really happy since that means she's getting food! Going back to the vet on Friday for a check up. Mom doesn't have a temp, everything's going good!
Oh, I forgot, they're standard poodles. Best kept secret in the dog world in my opinion And I meant I have nine healthy pups and one that I'm bottle feeding. 10 total.
They are beauties! So is Mom!! I love standard poodles and have wanted one for years.....a black male to be precise......and having been a GSD owner for most of my life people just don't get it.
The ones I've met have all been just wonderful and as I age I'm thinking I'd rather have someone really smart who I can groom in interesting ways.........convincing my husband is the trick!
Good luck and keep us posted!
Yeah, one of my favorite qualities is that they don't shed! People say, "but then you have to groom them" when in realty you have to groom EVERY dog, especially german shedders, I mean, shepherds. I rescued a GSD and placed him in a home and the few months I had him were enough for me to know that I don't want to deal with that much hair.
Another great thing about them is that you can find then from hunting lines if you're looking for more of a high drive dog, or you can get them from show lines so they are more laid back. I know the average person doesn't have the time or ability to deal with a working dog and all it's needs. Nina, the mom is so laid back, what I like about poodles too is that they are so people oriented. You walk them down the street and they will automatically stare at you the whole time anticipating your next move. All the ones I've had have been like that. And that's what I'm trying to reproduce. Sometimes it seems like with the working breeds the prey drive can sometimes work against you, like when you're walking them they're always looking for the rabbit or the skateboard.
I know men have this hang up with the "poodle" image. My husband was like that at first but now he adores her. But you can let their hair get really long so they look shaggy and that's cute and less "poodly" looking.
I hear you! Love the puppy clip myself and I'd forgotten about the not-shedding......is it possible to live with dogs and NOT have furballs in every corner of the house??//gadzooks, what a concept!
I may have to just sneak one in.......husband is a sucker for cold black noses.......hhhmmmmm
