I'm confused. Where does being a minority come into play in this situation? Let's keep this about the dog and not race.
My take on this Maisha is that race came into this post as a means to explore the circumstances of the incident. Racism is a sad reality but I think the comments that I have read seem to imply that the person in question is also a Leader and his actions as a Leader are questionable. That being said, a Leader should lead by example and do the right thing regardless of race or in this case privledge.
My hope is that the Senator has learned that the concept of the "throw away" pet is unacceptable for anyone...and that includes him!
Since I originally brought the race question in, it was because it is NOT uncommon for blacks to still be harrassed in the rural south. I am sorry; I have seen it with my own two eyes.
At that point, I thought it *could* have been possible that the animal control officer *could* have been getting even with the senator (and a STATE senator is not exactly a "position of power") because the senator had been a plaintiff in a civil rights lawsuit in which the animal control officer had been a defendant.
Since then, I have learned the senator owns his action and does not see what is wrong with it and learned he is, in fact, a wealthy and powerful man. So I would consider what he did as clearly very wrong, particularly considering his ability to seek other options and based on his level of education. He shoulda known better.
Unless I'm missing something both names appear as Defendants not plaintiffs. Even if it was a case of revenge I don't think anything from 1981 is relevant. I don't mean anything against you Nancy, but this was a completely wrong direction to go on a story of personal accountability with the ownership of a dog.
Steve, I was referring to a 2007 Civil Rights Case not something from 1981, I will have to find it, but the point is I was explaining that I made an expression of "possible doubt" that the senator could have been "framed" BEFORE the news article was released (which, BTW I posted) as "oh - ooks like he really did it".
So I raised a doubt, but when information came out that would erase that doubt, I posted it.
