Another Missourian here that has been following this great story. This is not too far south from St. Louis.
A friend of mine is a local TV reporter who yesterday met the owner of the two dogs that found the little boy an did a feature on them.
Both dogs are rescues--a scruffy black 60-pound cocker-mix (?) named Bear, the other a 30-pound little black dog that might have even been a lab-mix pup, named Little Bill. The owner rewarded both dogs with a dinner of bacon and eggs...and they are going to be included in a celebration parade in the town next weekend.
Funny line: the owner said Bear and Little Bill liked the bacon and eggs so much they might start snatching kids from their yards to get some more.
There were an extraordinary number of actual SAR teams and trained dogs who helped in the search--all of them heroes...and Bear and Little Bill are heroes in my book!
Obvious you can tell that I didn't know anything about the story after you posted the link. Which is why I asked several more questions about the story. I said " he was very lucky that dogs didn't attakc him" because not all dogs are kid friendly and a little kid can't stand to protect himself if something did happen. He is very lucky the dogs were there to help him.
Ann,
I am very surprised at your reply, honestly I have lost my respect for you as a forum member. I used to think your advice posts were great, but now, it changed how I felt about you say things like that.
It showed how little you respect me as a person and maybe I should not be in here. I guess I am on the wrong disscusion forum. I joined because I want to learn more about dogs and working dogs. I have a plan in the future to do french ring and schutzhund with a beauceron. This coming up Summer 2009 is very exciting for me because I am going to get a working puppy and meeting with a guy who is a member of this forum.
You made all comments that would raise your blood pressure. Now who is being the bad guy?
All I can say why has the moderators or administrator not deleted or gave you a warning about your post if they have a policy of not accepting members doing personal attacking. It makes me not want to come back to Leerburg if Ed is going to let a member who has been here for a long time say something like that to anyone or to me. If I make a mistake, I would apology. No way I will swear a word on the board. In my opinion, when people curse a lot, they don't know know to control their emotions.
You took my post as misleading. I said that because I was happy for the little boy not all dogs are friendly. I'm glad they didn't attack him. You don't know when a dog run up to you right away is going to lick you to death or going to bite you. It has nothing to do with pit bulls. Where do you get that idea from? I have said NOTHING bad about pit bulls ever. I am done.

I think that the emotion of the story led to some strong feelings and posts. I should not have allowed that line in Ann's post to remain (I certainly did not personally agree with it, but also it is definitely an unallowed personal attack) and I am deleting it now. Ann did not call you that name, but yes, it should not have been allowed to stay.
What I would like to see happen is for two mature and valued forum members to put one emotional post and one post that perhaps had unintended overtones about dogs in general behind them.
In fact, I feel pretty sure that two such reasonable and looked-up-to forum members will do that.
And I apologize for MY part (not Ed's; this thread was on my watch) in allowing an emotional attack to stay unedited.
I was very caught up in the joy of the subsequent posts. I hope that we can return to that feeling.
lindsay, i want to apologize to you publicly (sp?)for what seems to me, upon reflection, an undeserved attack by me upon you. at least partly--i reserve the right to misunderstand your original post which seemed to say that dogs could attack kids w/no reason.
the treachery of the web and typing...
at any rate, i DO sincerely apologize if i offended you and called you out when it wasn't appropriate for me to do so.
bottom line: the baby boy was found alive, ok, and i could cry with joy with the parents because i am one. it's called "Happy Mother's Day" !!
I appreciate the apology, thank you. I forgive you for making a mistake. My first post was probably just to open a can of worms. I didn't expect it would take too far.
I agree. It is a great mother's day for that little boy's mother to have her son be found and alive.
