Although my dogs DON'T have any opportunity to get at each others food, the element of competitivness is omnipresent. I have very high drive & very HIGH food drive dogs. This might also work (self food regulation) in an environment of lower food drive dogs regardless if there is more then 1 dog. Alyssa it will be interesting to see if the new dog makes a difference. But it may not until the dog is older not with a pup, since the competitiveness is not the same as with older (adult) dogs.

I think you have a very valid point Anne. I've only been feeding raw for two years and for 8 years before that my dog was fed kibble. He always self regulated; eating less when his exercise had been decreased or when it became very hot. But enter another dog or cat for that matter and woofing it down before they can; seems to be the priority . Same goes for anything another dog is getting. It's probably good he is an only child.
Also, he finishes off a complete Cornish hen in less time than a bowl of kibble. But I will attest to the return of the energy of his youth not so much the zoomies as the increased stamina. I thought at age 8 he was beginning to slow down. I was wrong. He was just looking for a better diet.
We had a GSD and Chesapeake Bay Retriever many years ago. They were both on crap in a bag at the time (I'm sorry - Brandy and Cocoa...) You could have put an entire bag of food open on the floor for Brandy and she would eat what she needed, when she needed. Cocoa on the other hand, given the opportunity, would have devoured the entire bag at one go. (Maybe Brandy had better taste and was simply ticked off that she wasn't getting raw...)
Alyssa, I would love to see a copy of your spreadsheet. Catagories and how you set it up would be great! Don't need personal information in it, but a blank would be awesome.
Also, do you plan on inserting a catagory on pollen count and itchiness for Danke if she gets the itchies next year?
I'm thinking (hoping, really) that she won't have allergy issues next year.
This spring was abnormally high in tree pollen, which appear to be the only pollen that causes her to become itchy.
How do we know?
You guess it, it's all charted.
If I ever have time to get online for long enough in the evenings, I'll email you a spreadsheet template.
Hambone has self fasted since ~2yrs old. Mostly one meal, sometimes two. Until I kept tabs on it, (years ago), I would worry he had something wrong with him.
I don't remember if you fast Danke. I did look at the post again and I can't decide if there is a "thread" of her self fasting in your notes or not.
For the future feeding and training, she seems like the type of dog who WOULD self fast, and I wondered if you were going to incorporate that in her spreadsheet.
Wow, this is a great post! I'm preparing to go raw in a couple of weeks myself and reading this post and your responses has really gotten me thinking on how to document things so that I can track the improvements I see. Thanks for sharing!
Like Jo, I would also like a copy of the spreadsheet (if you've got a chance and don't mind sharing it). It would be a huge help in getting started!
