Nope... I know the one he's talking about. It's a parrot cage design basically. The top is the weak section on this thing. I'd just have it repaired or replaced with plate then welded.
Once a dog has gotten to the point where it's basically getting into a crate then exploding as you leave it is likely time to rethink strategy. For now he's just destroying crates, but in the process it's pretty easy for him to start hurting himself.
Yea Melissa,
That would be my worry, how dedicated this dog would be in trying to get out of the crate? I or someone else can certainly rebuild her present crate or put another together from scratch that no dog could get out of but the damage the dog could do to to itself in the attempt at escape is too horrendous to contemplate.
The separation anxiety is really the issue here. Not the quality of the crate (woeful as that may or may not be).
Bounette, what kind of work have you done in that reguard?
Randy. It was not quite like the one in the link. That crate looks like it could house a bear with no problem.
I will put a link in the next post so you can take a look at it.
anyhow, He only does this when i'm not in the house. when i crate him while i'm at home he just lays down and goes to sleep.
I have tried leaving him with treats in the crate. peanut butter stuffed kongs and such. It keeps his attention for a little time but then he gets done or bored and he goes at it. In the video that I have of him I watched him and he will go back and forth between laying down to trying to get out. He will lay and then get up and start pulling or biting at the crate. It's crazy. I really thought this crate was going to be a keeper.
what else can i do except put things into the crate to keep him busy while i'm gone? like i said he does not do this when i'm not there so i can't really do it hands on.
this is the link to the page on ebay with the exact item i purchaes. sorry but you will have to copy and paste it into your address bar.
please let me know what you think.
he get plenty of walks throughout the day. I don't specifically excercise him b4 he is crated though. I also do have a large back yard that he gets to go out into during the day. I have not tried any muzzles, as i have been thinking about it though. no, no bark collar yet.
I will look again at the link and see what you are making a point about.
Should i try to focus on getting him more excercise and mental stimuli ? will that really help his anxiety in the crate when i'm not home?
should I just leave the crate issue alone for a while and be ready to clean up dog poop anytime i have to go somewhere? that drives me crazy. as does the broken crate,,,,,anyways.!
