It may sound odd to some people, but I have had a few dogs named Pomfret, too ... when the dog did not come with a name already in place, Pomfret has been my choice.

Gracie, whose registered name is Starfire Loupgarou Gratia Plena, is named after her grandmother, Grace (Loupgarou amazing Grace) who was lost during Katrina.

No rationale whatsoever other than we went through all the girls' and dogs' names we could find until one just sounded right. Wish we had some loftier inspiration but that was it. Of course, it was no surprise our last dog, Bailey, our Malinois, was named after a key ingredient of our favorite alcoholic drink, of which we needed plenty of in order to get her, and us, to survive her puppiehood. We would have considered the name Stella but our friends had one of her littermates and that was the name they selected. Again, note the alcohol connection.

I'm guessing there's a "Brandy" in your future. I will take an affirmative to mean "Absolut"ly.

Love the name, Bailey (and the item she's named after). Now you need a dog named "Coffee," so you can always have Baileys and Coffee on hand. LOL

Duke was named within 5 minutes of meeting him - never considered it before for a dog's name, but after meeting him, clearly, it was his name.
Though he gets called "Alligator" a good bit too

I've named so many dogs that Murphy was just 'the blue Brickhouse puppy' for a few weeks (his collar color in the litter was blue). He was born at a point in my life when all hell was breaking loose, and it seemed that Murphy's law was alive and well and functioning as part of my daily existence.
My Mother suggested the name Murphy, and it stuck. He seemed to personify the soft Irish name much more readily than any of the 'macho' names that Dobes end up with. I even incorporated it into his registered name: Brickhouse Murphys the Law. He became my charm against Murphy's law, and a darn good one
His soft Irish name still fits him well, too.

1st dog Taz....because when I first got him at 8weeks he was a terror...and I said he was a cross between an Austrailian Shepherd & Tazmanian Devil. Nickname: furface
Present dog is a rescue, and he came with the name Tucker. He'ld been through enough and I didn't mind the name so I just kept it. I was going to call him Radar because of his ears...but changed my mind
Nickname: boober or boo.
Don't complain....TRAIN!!! |

Radar is named after the M*A*S*H* character. I firmly believe that a dog's personality will grow into and fit their name, so I wanted a dog that could practically read my mind and be mischievous.
Mercy is named for all of these definitions - Compassionate treatment, especially of those under one's power; clemency.
A disposition to be kind and forgiving
Something for which to be thankful; a blessing
Alleviation of distress; relief
Shelby was named after the car, but the name just stuck in my mind as soon as I saw her. It may be a coincidence that she's super fast!
