Maisha Butler, my sincere condolences to you and your family on the loss of Enoch. It goes without saying, how deeply the loss of a beloved friend can affect a person, and a family.
Rest assured that he was very well loved, and died in his home, with his family, in the place he felt the safest. You have many happy memories with Enoch, concentrate on those.
Rest easy Enoch, run fast and free over the rainbow bridge.
Pam, this topic wasn't about my dog, it was Marsha losing her dog unexpectedly. I probably should have sent my reply to her privately to avoid confusion. Sorry for that.
My animals are not "like" family, they ARE family.
I am so very sorry. I lost my 6 year old GSD Dillon very suddenly to cardiac hemangiosarcoma two years ago. The tumor on his heart ruptured and he went into massive heart failure - there had been no symptoms previously, and the last photos I have of him were taken on a 2-day hike just a week before he died - he was apparently his normal athletic self, having a good time.
It's a horrible cancer, and sadly one that does have a higher incidence in GSDs. I don't know if it helps at all to know there is very little you could have done.
RIP Enoch.
I lost my 12 y/o Border Collie to Hemangiosarcoma last year. It's a cruel, fast growing highly malignant cancer. It is rarely caught early enough to make any difference, and even then the placement of the tumor can sometimes render it inoperable. I knew about it several weeks before I lost my girl, but all I could do was keep her comfortable and make her life as good as possible.
