I agree. Pam has already cooked up a batch of rice. It's standard procedure for us after vomiting.
Thanks

OVERcooked .... soupy .... grains starting to lose their shape. This makes accessible more of the firming agent in the rice (and of course give the water too).
In this case, I'd blend it up after overcooking, too.

David, not sure if this helps you, but my dog also had bouts of diarrhea after a long chewing session on a nylabone, just like the one you described.
I too saw the not so little chunks of nylabone in his stool. When I had called the vet regarding it he said that sometimes the shavings/chunks can be very very irritating to a dogs digestive tract and he had seen cases where they caused enough upset to bring on diarrhea. They are pretty rough and sharp even if they are small, alot of them in the stomach at once could cause upset.
Try to keep the warm fuzzies, it could just be some irritation.
Don't complain....TRAIN!!! |

Thanks Wendy. That makes me feel better!

IMO, yes. First day nothing but frequent but tiny snacks of "rice soup" .... then see the poop. I might add a little plain canned pumpkin (not sweet potato) the second day.
The big thing is not to add a big meal while his gut is still inflamed and start the diarrhea again.
Plus, the rice soup helps with hydration for a dog who has both vomited and had diarrhea.
And, just in case ..... I would hate to add a bunch of food behind a blockage that hadn't been seen.
(BTW, if he is not drinking enough, you can make baited water ..... give it tepid for rapid absorption into tissues. You might even bait it with a tablespoon of pumpkin mixed in.)
Do you know meat-baited water?

And watch out for the canned pumpkin "pie filling". Be sure you find the stuff that is 100% pure pumpkin, like the stuff from Libby's. Sometimes they are right next to each other on the shelf and can be confusing.

Hope he is ok David...I've heard of dogs getting diarrhea from bits of Nyla bones, kongs and stuff...Idk if a high grade less destructible version would be ok for him, some are supposed to be tougher.
I know this is irrelevant but kinda funny...Logan has been known to eat pine cones and oddly his stools were amazingly normal. I discovered this when noticed him crying when he was pooping. I saw pine cone spikes and blood...ouch ouch ouch!
