If I am understanding you correctly...the plan is that you are saying that at the trial your dog will be on the down while the rottie is doing his OB routine & vis versa? If so....doing that doesn't really seem fair to other dogs in the trial or truely test the dog in the trial if you can pick & choose what dog will be on the field when another is testing.
The purpose of the BH is to test the 'soundness' of the dog & should be to ANY dog participating in the trial or any distraction at the descretion of the judge. It should not make a difference if it is a club trial or national trial.
Going to piss some people off here with this but....this is how dogs pass trials that if properly tested would NOT pass.
Duane I am in no way saying that you are dishonest or that your dog can or cannot pass under any circumstances ...I believe that your being new to all this you don't honestly know or expect to gain anything by this exceot experience for youself...but I am just stating a well know fact that less then honest people do this to put titles on their dogs..especially breeders to be able to breed & sell inferior dogs.

Wow, almost blew today's training session. Yesterday I had gotten great responses doing recall even with distractions from people. So.... Today, as I was leashing up to get out of the car to go in The Academy, and I decided to try to do a few recalls outside. And for just a second though "maybe I should throw some long lines on", then immediately thought "Nah, they kicked ass yesterday, I won't need to correct them. They can do this!". I let them get interested in a scent then recalled. Mabel peeled off and came right to me! Awesome!. Milo..... Looked up.... Thought about it for a second.... Then went back to sniffing! AAAAARRGGH. Why didn't I use a line?!?! Sit stayed Mabel, and went and got him leashed. Then because I am quite dense... Called Mabel to me cause She's all set. She did come. But it was silly to not have been sure and not set her up for success.
I backed up, and got smart. Took them indoors, with less distractions, and put them on long lines.
And had many good reps of recalls. After another session or two of "recharging" Milo's recall, I'm gonna go back outside WITH A LINE and try again. Unless someone has a better idea!
I'm soooo open to coaching!

Thanks, Anne!
This is exactly why I asked. I think I realized this in the back of my mind, but needed to hear it from a stranger with experience in trialing. It sounded like a good idea when we discussed it at the club just because both parties are nervous about having our dogs ready on time. After thinking about the work Sadie did last night and the schedule I have for training, I really shouldn't have a problem.
I am trying to be as honest as possible, and that is why I questioned this openly and publicly.
Happy fourth Birthday, Sadie!!!

Duane...work them that way for practice & put another dog in there here & there & see if the training holds. You have done alot with her to get her where she is...it would be foolish to start pushing or rushing training now just to make a trial date. There are always more trials. Rushing her or short cuts will backfire & come back to bite ya in the end. If she is ready by the time of the trial she is ready if not she's not. NOTHING to be gained by pushing a dog.
Jay...long lines are a great training tool. I LOVE them! My young dogs have all run around on them right from the begining of training. I use them on dogs out on the field at all lower levels of training thru till totally proofed to distractions. No better way to have a dog think that they are on their own & yet you have total control. (other then an e-collar, which I do use, but I don't think should be in just anyone's hand- JMO as I have seen a far amount of it's misuse even with those with supposed training)

Best tracking in a while.
After repeating the last scenario five times, I removed all of the bait on the first 10" track, except for the scent pad and a jackpot at the end. On the second 20' track, I baited the scent pad and put an article at the end, again with no bait on the trail. Indication was back and it was solid (articles had been a distraction for the past several weeks).
The third track had no bait on the pad, had a bait patch halfway down the first leg and another after the corner, and a jackpot at the end. Thiw was the first day that the main trail on the first two tracks was not baited. Sadie had been taking scent on the unbaited pads previously, but today she blew over the pad and hit the trail. I think this is because of less bait in the earlier stages of the session, and she was ready to find some. However, once on the trail, she was the good Sadie; steady pace, head moving side to side as she checked each footstep methodically.
I plan to repeat this scenario at least five times, as I did the previous one, before I change anything else. I would like to be a little further back on the line, but oh well...not just yet, I guess.

Recall under distraction. Rabbit, run away horse, horse feed left out on the ground, dead crow and a wild screaming kid in the hay feild.
Harley was very good, Dexter as normal slow but reliable.
No real training today, just a lot of action around the barn.

Today, wound up being complete junk. Went to The Academy before we are technically "open" so I can use the place to work the dogs. Well, of course there's a few people training, which normally I don't mind, BUT, they brought their complete unattended infant who just loves to pester dogs.
Milo is the stereo typical awesome Bully, and so he's awesome with even annoying kids. So he got to do a few recall's with pretty high level distractions (DID keep his long line on!). Only got a couple of reps in before the kid went into meltdown mode from me calling him away from her. He did VERY good.
Mabel on the other hand..... She's still working on not teaching people manners. And that kid has NO manners. So, Mabel was stuck in the kennel. Was raining like hell outside, so I couldn't switch to an outside plan.
Once we open I get real busy, but I found the time to get in a quick tug session with Milo. Really working on being able to let go of the tug and not have him run off with the prize. Hopefully, that will transition into him bringing it towards me when I let go. One day, maybe, he'll "bring it"!
Did, some On leash obedience with Mabel. She can't get that excited in a crowded gym, so, no tug for her. Boo. But her heel through the crowd was nice.
Wasn't great, but got some work in. Better than giving up on it.

So... Today was pretty busy, but I managed to get in a quick session.
Worked on "look".
I am trying to learn how to do marker training, and I decided to start with that. Plus, Mabel is a tad reactive (she's the devil), so I think training a solid gaze even under distraction is probably a useful skill!
Spent a few 5 minute rotations with each.

Took the day off obedience. Well, aside from their regular life stuff!
Decided to do a "fun" activity. So took them bikejoring! Took all 3 on a 4 dog gangline. Ran the Milo and Mabel up front and Bella in the back. their "over" and "turns" were working quite well, but their "leave it" was BAD. Came to a complete and sudden stop 3 times in 2 miles. Got unbelievably tangled in 1.5 seconds. had to get of the bike all three times and get them straightened out. But, when they are on..... Damn is it fun!

OB during play time. Sit, down, stand untill release for the ball or tug.
I could see him fighting himself not to break position. Out was also good.
