That is really good to hear, and it has encouraged me to make contact with someone higher up at our local shelter which deals almost exclusivly by old wives tales so far such as
The dogs arent allowed out of their cages when it rains or the ground is, quote "Squishy" because theyll get sick and die....it rained for 2 weeks this month.
sheesh, but thanks for posting that because it gave me an idea and encouragment.
Reading some of the situations encountered by some with shelter workers, it strikes me that arrogance is the problem with some of these workers. "Power" gone awry, taking themselves way too seriously. I agree with Randy's statements. I don't want anyone who works at a shelter tell me, the prospective willing and loving adopter of a dog or cat, that they know better than me as far as whether or not I can have a dog, whether I should even have a dog, what dog is best for me, if the dog and I are a good match (if "I" say we're a good match, that should be respected since I know myself better than any stranger could by reading a few forms and having a short interview), then turn around and deny me the dog I wanted. Ridiculous and downright arrogant.
Very few people can handle being given that kind of "control" without it going to their heads.

Well, YOU, maybe, but I know from experience that some of the people who come to adopt a dog (say, some prospective Pit Bull owners, for example, or a person who has surrendered five dogs) are absolutely unsuitable. Someone does indeed have to make that call.
Maybe it needs to be be two someones.... to limit that power/control thing... ?

That would better, much better, and if there's still questions or problems, a third higher up and very experienced in reading dogs (and people) to make the final decision. Checks and balances.
